I hope I'll be welcome to this forum. I'm an Orange Blooded University of Tennessee graduate and have followed UT football since my 7th grade year (1963). The first UT game I saw was 1963 in Memphis at the old Crump Stadium. The Vols were in their last year of running the single wing and lost to a good Ole Miss team 20-0. Bama beat us 35-0 behind Joe Namath that year. I believe Bama beat Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl on a cold day in New Orleans- even with Joe Namath on suspension. In my high school years I listened to a lot of Alabama and LSU games on the radio and was a fan of both of them as well as my Vols. The UT-Alabama games in the 60's were great ballgames.

I found this forum in a search to find a source for game tapes of UT and/or Alabama games of past eras. Being an SEC football fan and since Bama is my second favorite team, I thought I'd like to take part. If anyone out there has a tape of UT playing in 1963- the year of the Halloween jerseys, please let me know.

For now- Go Vols and Roll Tide

Welcome Coach.I remember that game with Ole Miss well.Steve Sloan played the QB position and we beat Ole Miss with four field goals,12 to 7.Johnny Vaught was the OM coach and he was a class act.

Old Coach, I remember that game well. There was snow piled on the sidelines from where the field had been cleaned.Sloan(from Cleveland, Tn) was a soph. And was thrust into the game.As you may recall, freshmen didn't play varsity ball.As I remember it, Buddy French, the punter from Decatur,Al called the signals for Steve.
Anyway, as already been stated, One of the Davis bros. kicked four FG's to win.Coach Bryant recieved a telegram from Beaver Fall's Pa.(Namath's hometown) with four thousand signatures asking him to re-instate Joe.Once Coach Bryant made a decision he never wavered, so the telegram was for naught.
In later years as Coach became more melancholy, he said if were to do over, he would have let Joe back on the team.
I know you didn't ask for all of the above but just thought perhaps that there would also be some younger Bama fans on here might enjoy knowing that also.
OC, welcome, post early, and post often.
This being a Bama board, there will be many times you will read threads that you won't agree with and not like, but take it in stride with the knowledge that its not personal, the latch string is hanging out for you.

Whew, not often you'll see that quote on here. Welcome Old Coach, as you can see there are a few of us who remember games as far back as 1963. There are a number of pretty good UT fans who used to post on here from time to time, but they have dropped off recently. I, for one, would like to see them return...Are you out there UT Jughead and Tennessee?
