It’s one thing that Tennessee didn’t get any players on offense or defense voted first-team preseason All-SEC, but an NFL talent evaluator lobbed an even more alarming observation about the Vols.

And it has nothing to do with a lack of talent.

An NFL scout told SEC Country that the draft-eligible players on the 2017 Tennessee roster not only lack star power, but more notably, toughness.

That’s probably one reason Coach Butch Jones’ 2017 slogan is D.A.T. — Details, Accountability and Toughness.

It’s probably also why Jones emphasized heart and character in his last two recruiting classes.

Tennessee had six players drafted in April, but the Vols might not have half that many picks in 2018.

That's why Alvin Kamara (spelling???) got so much attention in the spring & fall camps last year..He looked like the best RB in the nation practicing against his D & got killed playing against more stout D`s in the season..

I just love this thread title and the article. I was having a conversation with a vol guy I work with the other day and he was accusing us of cheating (juicing) our players to get them so strong. I quickly told him that maybe Tennessee should start trying to cheat to get strong then because they aren't near as nasty as our guys.

From 1995 - 2006, I'll always remember how every year I convinced myself we had a chance to beat Tennessee. No way Fulmer was that good, and somehow every year I had hope in our team. Now obviously, we go the better of them in 2002 and 2005 so I'm not talking about those seasons. Anyway, it never failed, after the games were over I'd always have the grim awareness of just how far behind them we really were. Even in 1999, with Shaun Alexander and a team that won the SEC and beat Spurrier twice, we were still not as deep and talented as they were and lost 21-7.

This is their reality now. They can be ranked in the top 10 coming into our game, have the highest hopes they've had in a decade, and get boat raced 49-10 because they are so far behind us. I don't know how long this will last, but I will cherish every second of it.
