No Celebration Calls on WVU?

My wife (Aubie) made the comment last night that WVU should have probably received at least two celebration calls for poses in the end zone after touchdowns. While I was enjoying the Aubie loss, I have to admit that she was right. We got called last week for much less than what WVU did this week (by the same officiating crew I think).

Any thoughts on this?

I think its a stupid rule and none of them should be called.. its just too subjective.. The WVU guy last night who repeatedly was throwing up gang signs.. then dropping to his knees with his arms up in the air like he was the Highlander about to recieve the quickening.. that was over the top, and shouldve gotten a call.. being consistent with other calls ive see.

I'm not one to call out the refs much, but it sure does seem these last few games the refs have been calling some subject calls on us.
On big plays too, that have effected the outcome somewhat.......:frown:

Maybe some other schools have called to say how we wasn't getting many calls on us earlier this year. Who knows, but hopefully we start playing these last games with low penalties........

:BigA: ROLL TIDE :BigA:

IIRC, wasn't Maze's "celebration" just him crossing his arms on his chest and puffing his chest up and pausing? That was all I saw, but the cameras were a little erratic. Seems like that wouldn't constitute throwing a flag to me, especially now since there were none thrown against WVU last night...

A pporly officiated game all the way around. But if they had been in my living room it would have to have been full of yellow flags. I was doing some serious strutting

I noticed the same thing. I recognized the officiating crew as being SEC, so I figured they were a little afraid to toss yellow hankies at WVU in their stadium.

SEC crew in Big East stadium, showcased on ESPN: Those zebras didn't want to make any calls that would be the feature story on College Gameday.

I thought the celebrations were excessive compared to what has been flagged in other games this year.

I also thought Auburn was the beneficiary of some very questionable spots and calls that kept some of their drives alive early on.

i''m in the majority here. and maybe i need to see the wvu player again but the Maze pose says "look at me" "i did that".. where the wvu player was just pumped about scoring the TD right after catching the rock thus saying"yeh wooooooo" JMO. those calls are normally judgement calls arent they? kinda like Stover didnt get the penalty last year vs Colorado. Couldnt believe he didnt get flagged. no idea where you guys are getting gang sign references from

West Virginia is not a very good football team and a lack of discipline after a couple of Mountaineer scores demonstrated it as well as some the missed tackles and interceptions. If they are ranked after beating Auburn they will be over-ranked.

Someone mentioned it last night in the game thread but I'll reiterate it here; Ole Miss is gonna stomp a large hole in Aubie's cow pie next week.

"Excessive Celebration" is not celebration at all, it is unsportsmanlike conduct.

SEC crew afraid to make that call against a Big East team in their stadium.

That, and calling unsportsmanlike conduct against an opponent of Auburn seems kind of absurd. :eek2:

I agree the celebrations should have gotten a flag, BUT I thought the Barn got many (3-4) no calls for their favor early on. 1st drive had a knee down before fumble, which gave the Barn about 5 yards. The blatant grounding no call. Both teams got some beneficial No Calls.

Were the replay officials from the Big East? Because if they were, they were not reviewing some calls early on for the same reasons. I don't believe Lester fumbled on that opening drive, which they ruled it as, and it ended up helping Auburn gain yardage, as a Barn OL recovered it. Then, a couple plays later an Auburn WR had a catch ruled as such, when it looked like it hit the ground first. Yet, no apparent review on either.

Looked as though Penn Wagers and crew had a case of brain-freeze all night. Poor spots, missed the incomplete pass on the barn rat's long drive, and the no calls on celebration.

I thought they should have been flagged twice...the player that scored both times was calling attention to himself for a period of time well before his teammates got involved...if I'm not mistaken the rules will allow team celebration as long as its not excessive as in taunting the other team.
This whole game had terrible officiating on both sides.

I thought the officiating crew helped auby all they could on that 1st drive. The throw to Hawthorn clearly hit the ground, and during the game there were several times a flag for excessive celebration could have been called.

I say let the kids play ball it makes for a better game and if you don't want a celebration in your end zone.... protect it.

LOL. I saw that and agree. It was definitely worse than what Maze did.

HA! I almost choked. Combine all of the above with an epileptic fit and you have the WVU receiving corps.

Giving the Refs that kind of lead way is just stupid. The refs are already limited in their ability to make good judgement calls. Judgement calls have no business in college football, its just a joke if that is the case. One game the calls are not made and the next they are. There is no consistency whatsoever when it comes to the highjacked officials who will get it wrong more times than not. The SEC lacks the guts and muscle to do anything about it. The Big10, PAC10 have fired several officials who have a problem getting it right. IF the SEC gets a pair then the clown show will stop.

Was not the same crew. Penn Wagers crew did not do the Bama/Ole Sis game.

Ya Mazes folding his arms was not as bad as the WV threwing there arms around like they did on 2 TDS! Kinda sad if you ask me cause Bama in the last 2 games has been getting HOSED with Penalties.......
