Is anyone here surprised that their government would consistently and repeatedly lie to them for the sole sake of meeting a political agenda?
This goes on even today in a multitude of different situations. The safety and well being of US military personnel or civilian citizens is not among their chief concern. What they want to achieve politically is their primary motivation.

Oh, yah, I don't think anything in the story suggests they were actively continuing the WMD program.
If one is curious enough to go back to the archives of this forum, he will find me pointing out that when the Iraq Survey Team went into Iraq after the fall of the Baathist regime, they found that in 2003 the Iraqis had hundreds of chemical warheads, that the Baathists themselves believed had been destroyed. They were terrible at record-keeping.

Where is Baghdad Bob? I could see him really effective in a position like meeting with journalists in the White Press and diverting their attention from what is really happening.

There were chem weapons found in 1991. A friend of mine is on disability as a result.

I remember guys blowing up Iraqi ammo dumps, having no clue what was inside the bunkers.
In some cases, there were probably chemical rounds inside.
From the video, it appears that this "don't know what it is, just blow it up" attitude was still going on in Iraq 2003-2010.

Watching the guy being interviewed last night, seems like the cw warheads looked just like all the others, so no protocol was ever put in place to try and find out which ones were chemicals and which ones were just explosives. Too much work, I guess - what's a few soldier's lives? Leaders began to care about soldiers when their family members are soldiers, not before.

Iraqi quality control left a lot to be desired, so I would prefer to spend as little time as possible in an Iraqi ammo dump.
And you are correct that chemical rounds look a lot like conventional bombs, except those that have an oily substance oozing out of them (which was happening in some of the photos I saw). If you blow up one up, you have just slimed yourself.
