Obama's Africa trip to cost (taxpayers) $60 - $100 million

I do not criticize any President for making a trip like that. Being the "diplomat-in-chief" is one of the President's jobs.

And before you criticize him, Bush 43 made two trips to Africa...according to that article. This is Obama's very first one.

Well, there you go. That's $60 - $100 million worth of justification, if I've heard heard it.

Didn't he make a speech in Egypt not long after his first election? Just saying, not his first.

Is a carrier landing part of this trip?

Nah - Obama is not a show-off like his predecessor. When the natives see this rolling around the countryside, I'm sure it will blend in nicely with the local modes of transportation.

Nothing to see here - move along.

No. But this is (from the original article):

At the end of June, Mr. Obama and his family will take an eight-day trip to sub-Saharan Africa, making stops in Senegal, Tanzania, and South Africa in the name of reinforcing U.S. commitment to forging strong relationships with emerging democracies in the region. The president will hold meetings with "a wide array of leaders from government, business, and civil society, including youth," according to a White House press release announcing the trip, and seek to "underscore the [his administration's] commitment to broadening and deepening cooperation between the United States and the people of sub-Saharan Africa to advance regional and global peace and prosperity."

You are correct. So then he was there the same amount as President Bush. (Though he is going to a different part of the continent.) My point was that he wasn't making these trips overly frequently.

Oh, ok. I didn't realize he was doing powerful stuff like that.

FYI, that was not me. I never criticized Bush for making a trip like this.

Have you criticized him for anything and then okayed Obama's doing it because Bush did it? That's the point I was making not criticizing him for a trip. I don't think anyone is criticizing Obama for the trip but the cost. There has to be some way to cut the cost of a trip like this.
