Everyone, including myself, thinks BOB is gone. But who really wants this guy other than Saban? He really has not done anything to get an OC job in the NFL. I am fully prepared to suffer with the 2 current Coordinators for the next 2-3 years. Other than Major Applewhite, who has Saban just cut loose from a major coaching position?
If memory serves, both Nussmeier and Kiffin were basically told to go find other gigs.....

The NFL coaching circle is really quite small, and someone who has proven themselves to be just 'meh' in the NFL will get look after look as they never know when all the right pieces will come together, but they're really cautious about bringing new people into the circle.

BOB has, from what I can tell, a solid NFL reputation (amongst people who matter, not fans) - I expect he could pick up the phone, out the word out, and have an NFL job in <24 hours.

I just took a stroll down memory lane back to 2013 and checked some scores of games when ole’ bowl cut was DC. He gave up 42 to Texas a@m and 34 to the barn when we were in such a predicament that we tried a 56 yard field goal because WE COULDN’T STOP THEM. I trust CNS will do whatever he thinks is necessary. RTR. And, GO Bucks.

Read an interesting stat today. 25% of all one score games in the CNS era at Bama have come in the last two years. When you look at the length of his tenure that is a pretty telling stat. Ole Bowl Cut did give up some points here and there, but it was the exception not the rule. The Auburn game you mentioned was also the result of some pretty bad offensive play calling. The real problem this year was a failure on both sides of the ball when it comes to play calling. Neither side of the ball was consistent and you could count on one or the other to fail during a game if not both.

Things just don't feel right...the weekly play shows it..not so much the results unless you consider the amount of point average scored against us. If our Defense could scare Quarterbacks it would look different. I do think that officiating is a part of this. For example....Notice that Hooker (UT) was incredibly accurate when allowed to stand back there ALONE and survey the field. When he got seriously rushed he became pedestrian. Watch that South Carolina game again. So SC has better personnel? We could have been much much better, but that is spilled milk.. if you want Defense? Gotta get a DL coach, AND a LB coach. A DC goes without saying. Bama scored enough points to be 12-0 with a good D. I know that the rules don't favor Defense now, but it is a fact that the Defense has allowed Offenses to go 90+ yards in crucial situations. Coaching Defense is tough. So let's get tough.

Third and Kirby was a thing so too is Third and Golding a thing. I notice a pattern here...

We had no answer for Johnn Manziel either defensively. Remember Saban had to rely on a fake punt and a kickoff return to win the NC in 2015. The defense had no answer that night and Third and Kirby was already a well established thing by then...

It really doesn't matter who the DC is until we change some things differently on defensive that transcends multiple DCs and changes in the rules.

The trend with our defense getting into shootouts started in 2012 and fluctuated from there in a downward trend.

For the last decade, we had lived on our defensive personnel being better than the opponents. Not really relying on defensive technique as much. Thus we have found ourselves in games where personnel are similar yet strategy is not as effective. This strategy if not effective in the current era.

But the thing here is both sides of the ball need fixing. Bob gave up tempo and gave the 10-14 points per game that made our system effective the last few years. This really is an adjustment in play calling and a few details. Saban apparently perceives this is easier to fix than defense. And based on prior history it appears to be.

Of the two coordinators, I've been pretty clear where I THINK we need improvement the most is on the defensive side of the ball. 35-50 points from our O should always win a ball game with our talent level. I want a DC that has the Will Muschamp/Brent Venables-type persona--running up and down the sidelines and extremely animated, GETTING MAD AND SHOWING SOME EMOTION, someone that the players respect and have a healthy fear of displeasing. With Pete, I don't think we have any of that. He might understand terminology, X's and O's , but imho does not have the natural ability to impart, teach, or motivate. Unless a change is made, I am not optimistic about improvement next year, I don't care how many 5 stars we bring in.

Just got back from Tuscaloosa. My wife got her master's degree. Also, saw To'oto'o after graduation.

Anyway... I was talking to a local and she doesn't even follow football that closely. But she detailed something from last weekend that indicated a problem that's been brought up in this thread and in the past still persists in regard to Golding. At this point he seems to need handlers.

I think it has clearly become an untenable situation.

All too true defensively - thing is, when you played 'Bama, win, lose or nightmare scenario come to pass, you woke up for the next eight days with full body aches that put the health of your team in critical condition sometimes for the rest of the season. The 'Bama intimidation factor and defensive imposing of will ended ignominiously with Gol*fish and his mush rush and 1-4-6 Dearth Vader alignment.

There is a story floating around the web that we do not allow posted on Tidefans (because at this stage is purely rumor) regarding exactly what you heard the local say. Supposedly happened several weeks ago. I won't say anymore because if people want to know, its out there, just have to dig a little bit for it. Just dont post it here, because as of now it is pure rumor.
