Looks like Terrence Coleman now lists Arkansas at the top of his list. I guess he waited too late to finally decommit.
You know, this is one of the unfortunate things for high school recruits who had made a solid commitment to a school early in the process. Because of loyalty to a coach, they are the ones inevitably without many options. We did, in fact, run out of room for him... and I would guess other schools are in the same situation. And, unless Auburn ends up with a guy who will be able to create confidence in guys like him, it's very likely they end up going to schools they don't really want to attend since their options are limited.

And, before anyone says, "they shouldn't have committed to them in the first place," this was a very real situation for us when we lost Shula a few years ago. Looking at our roster right now, it is very likely that some of our commits probably should have gone another route... but probably were in a tight spot if their options were also limited.

It's going to be interesting to see How it shakes down at Ark. They don't have too many slots open and there's quite a few great possibilities out there.

Cotton's father, in some article I read either on Rivals or Scout, sez that Arkansas and Ole Miss has contacted him and he's considering visiting but has no officials lined up. Word out of St. Louis is that Sheldon Richardson and Wingo will not annouce at the Army AA game. They visit Ark together on Jan 9th.

We were sitting around thinking about who'll benefit the most from the shakeups in the SEC, and we all thought that Ole Miss and Nutt could get to some major catch up done in the recruiting dept.

Wow. All the de-commitments are going to wind up at other schools, many of them in the SEC, some to other conference schools. It's certain that at some point in the next couple of years the aubs are going to be mighty thin at a lot of positions. This can have a snowballing effect over several years. One weak recruiting class leads to lack of depth, which if not compensated by other strengths, can lead to several key game losses and possibly more losing seasons. If they don't land a high-profile coach real soon they are going to be in real trouble for a very long time. Even then, the new coach will have to hire new assistants to help install his own offensive scheme, and then recruit the proper talent to make it effective. Landing these recruits, then teaching them to run his offense and bringing them up through the ranks is going to take several years. That's bad enough, but that combined with the extreme lack of motivation of the players already at the barn spells trouble there for years to come. Whomever they land to fill tub's vacancy certainly has his work cut out for him.
Tubs ileft behind a load of bare cupboards, and this parade of de-commitments makes it worse by the day. That, my friends, is a sure sign of a very long and bumpy road ahead for the barners. .:)

Not completely. Their classes which will be juniors & seniors next year were strong, but whoever they hire will have to get it turned around pretty quick or they'll be in terrible shape in 3 years.

Eh, I would honestly even disagree with that one.

Their 2007 class was a good one on paper, but in reality it wasn't. It was a class largely inflated by numbers anyway (30 signees), and they had an absolute boatload of academic casualties. Once you factored out the academic casualties, it was a pretty mediocre class. After that, it wasn't even a top fifteen class.

Moreover, even of the guys who did make it in, it hasn't been very impressive. Kodi Burns was the five-star Mr. Everything quarterback, but going into his junior season he might the worst quarterback in the conference, and he's got a dim future to boot. Chaz Ramsey looked good enough as a freshman, but he transferred. A.J. Greene was supposed to be the next elite pass rusher, but he didn't have the athleticism most thought, and now they are moving him to the offensive line. Ryan Williams was a big signee at cornerback, and academic problems have plagued him, and his very future at Auburn is highly uncertain even now.

Bottom line, the 2007 class wasn't very good. And the 2008 class, of course, was a disaster. And now, of course, the 2009 class is going to be an even bigger disaster. Put it all together, and you have three straight bad classes, and it shows once you start looking at the roster. They only have a few guys with any real amount of talent right now, and many of those guys -- Antonio Coleman, Sen'Derrick Marks, Jerraud Powers, Tray Blackmon, Brad Lester, etc. -- are either seniors or juniors who are looking to go early.

The truth of the matter is that Auburn is facing a major deficit in terms of both elite talent and quality depth. This wasn't a team that massively underachieved and went 5-7... this was a team that went 5-7 just because they weren't very good. At the end of the day, the short term future at Auburn looks very bleak.

I'm not going by recruiting class rankings.

Last spring/summer I charted the Rivals star ratings of the players listed on each SEC team's spring roster plus their signees. The Barn's juniors (next year's seniors) included 2 5-stars and 5 4-stars. Their enrolled sophomores (next year's juniors) included 17 4-stars. Those two classes are, by far, the bulk of their talent.

Someone needs to write a letter to Lowder and tell him how much the BAMA Nation appreciates what he has done for the aub football program.
Thanks Lowder!

DT Jamontay Pilson from Greenville, AL. is a soft-commit to Auburn but he is now saying that he is interested in Alabama. He is in the process of setting up an official visit to UA. He says that he still has a Bama offer. A crowded interior line group of top prospects just keeps getting bigger. lol

On the local news in Montgomery yesterday they interviewed him. He said that he was solid with Auburn and he didn't feel comfortable at Alabama when he visited. Then today he has been sent home for violation of team rules. I wouldn't spend to much time wondering if he will be showing up this summer at Tuscaloosa.

Nor would I. I seriously doubt he still has an offer from us, if he ever had one to begin with.

I've said all along that Pilson never had a firm offer from Alabama, and I stand by that now.

If you recall the course of events... He had an offer early from Auburn, and then visited Alabama. In the days immediately following his Alabama visit, he said he had an Alabama offer and that Alabama was his definite favorite... and then he committed to Auburn about three days later. You do the math: he loved 'Bama, quickly realized he didn't have a firm offer after all, and committed to Auburn.

I'm not necessarily criticizing Pilson as a player mind you because I think he's actually a pretty good prospect -- nor am I criticizing his actions that got him sent him, because that was probably more to do with a bout of juvenile immaturity than anything else -- but I think it's plain as day that he never had a firm offer from us in the beginning, and he certainly does not have one now.

Oh I agree with y'all, I don't think he is a serious Bama prospect. That is why I said that "He says that he still has a Bama offer." I was not picking him as a likely signee or anything. I was just passing on what he said in a Rivals.com interview. He has some serious qualilfying concerns and now with him being thrown off the all-star team I doubt he gets that Bama visit that he wanted.

Alabama Squad Near Ready; 2 Players Dismissed
Alabama added two more players to its roster Thursday afternoon, defensive lineman Jamar Travis of W.S. Neal and defensive back Keairon Wilson of Davidson, as the sixth and seventh changes made on the 37-player roster since Dec. 1. Travis and Wilson participated in the afternoon drills held at UMS-Wright Prep School.

They replaced Jamontay Pilson of Greenville and Justin Anderson of Foley, who were removed from the roster Thursday morning for undisclosed disciplinary reasons. Steve Bailey, Director of the Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association, had no other comments about the dismissal.

Auburn recruiting just keeps getting better...

Rodney Scott finally pulled the trigger and reneged on Auburn. He followed the Enrique Davis path and committed to Ole Miss.

Jamie Collins has reneged on Auburn, and he has committed to Southern Miss.

Raymond Cotton is all but gone. It seems pretty clear that he will either end up at Arkansas or Ole Miss.

LaDarius Perkins hasn't de-committed yet, but it seems like Mississippi State and Dan Mullen has jumped into the lead for him.

Ontarrio McCalebb is an extremely soft commitment right now, and he's going to decide between Clemson and Auburn next week. It seems right now like he's probably going to choose Clemson.

And finally, the big one... the Ole Miss Rivals site is reporting that Eltoro Freeman -- the five-star JUCO linebacker who signed with Auburn two years ago -- called the Ole Miss coaching staff and informed them that he wanted to sign with them. He actually re-confirmed a few days back that he would sign with Auburn and enroll in January, but that was before the Chizik hiring and the announcement that Willis would not return. Apparently that turned him away from Auburn. Stay tuned, if they lose Freeman, that would be absolutely devastating.

What's the deal with former Auburn commits going to Ole Miss? I know Houston Nutt is not the best recruiter out there, but not even Ole Miss offered any of Auburn's prospects the first time around.
