This is the same exact team from last year. No fire, no urgency. Even with the one player everyone (including myself) said was the problem, this is a continuation of last year.

The first drive was the lone bright spot of the game.

Putting a TF in a situation such as D. Lee proved to be a fatal mistake

After we couldn’t convert any points on the miffed punt I knew the mentality that dominated SEC/CFB for a long time was gone

The NIL/TP is what it is, nothing is changing there. But that doesn’t excuse this team from the performance they gave today.

I don’t know what happened to Alabama, but they need to find themselves quickly or we will experience more “firsts in a long time” stats and outcomes. That says a lot that we’ve won openers since 2001, it says a lot we go 4-4 as double-digit favorites in the past two years.

It’s like since Georgia beat us in Indy for the NC we only get up to play them and everyone else is irrelevant

When Saban retired my Dad asked me who i would want to replace him and the only two coaches that came to mind were Kiffin and Kirby. Not realistic but thats who i wanted.

My first pick would have been Lanning. Second would have been Kiffin.

I'll say it again.....this program has taken on the personality of its head coach....just like everything other program does over time. Unfortunately, Shula 2.0 doesn't work unless you're in the Group of 5 or 6 or whatever it is now, I don't care.

Im not sure if the Oline is bad, Ty is holding on to the ball too long or the receivers can’t get separation. Maybe all three! Painful to watch that game. That’s all I got!

So our guys came into the game thinking it would be easy and thought it was over when we scored quickly. Saban was always good at sensing complacency and really got after the players hard.

Don't miss the point. Nick's strategy was get the best players. We did that for his entire tenure. When he realized we could not do that anymore, he retired. We do not have the best players now, especially in the trenches on the O and D lines. Coaching is a problem now yes, but Alabama will not be the same as under Saban because we cannot corner the market on talent like we once could.

Too long? he was running for his life in a matter of 2 seconds....when he had protection he completed his throws...this is an OL problem, not a QB problem

i’m not being a negative nelly nor predicting a three win season, but that statement, if he said it, reminds me of the mindset of the 2000 team after the UCLA loss. I can’t remember who it was, but one player said that after Freddie Milons ran back UCLA’s first punt for a touchdown for quick 7-0 lead, his thought was, “well, that was easy…“

After the bowl game last year and the opener this year, I have been completely disabused of the notion that Alabama under Kalen DeBoer will be dialed in and sharp after weeks to prepare.

Good questions.

There were times the OL protected. And TS seemed slow getting it out.

There were times it seemed TS needed a split second more to get his feet set to throw, and instead, he got pressured/hurried and the WR was open. On one of these occasions, RW was wide open behind the secondary for a TD. Instant replay showed this clearly.

There were times when the OL protected, TS set his feet, but the WRs were NOT open. I was surprised how many times TS had to throw into tight coverages for his 1st start. I really thought we'd have more motions/movement and tricks to get WRs more wide open for him.

Was it the players? The scheme? The coaches?

Hard to say for sure.

Rather than try to pick a name out of those I'd just look for a coach with a certain personality. DeBoer is described as a player's coach. The players like him. Some would say that's a good thing because their theory is that players are going to play hard for a coach they like. I'd go the other way and go for a coach the players might fear a bit. Bryant and Saban were not necessarily liked by the players but they certainly were feared.

The issue is in this age of nil and transfer portal unlimited it doesn’t translate necessarily as well. You might need a hybrid of the two styles.

I work on a high school football program in a small county school with limited resources with the coach who coached me over a decade ago. He was the biggest disciplinarian, guy with high standards, and tough as nails guy i ever been around when i played. Guys that played for me would go through a brick wall for him. However, now he has had to tailor his style to keep a team. This generation has too many options. Alabama is the St. Louis Cardinals of college football competing with the New York Yankees and LA Dodgers. A guy could get butt hurt by Day yelling at him at Ohio State and transfer out and Ohio State wouldn’t feel it. Alabama doesn’t have that luxury. We lose a guy like Ryan and it’s a devastating loss.

It almost looked like bucket step Bob was coaching the o-line and the defense. There were very few plays where it looked like the o-line was competent or the defense was actually attacking a play instead of catching people yards down the field. Very frustrating to watch such a passive showing.

Agreed. That clearly showed how poorly coached we were. I’m just saying when folks state we have the most talent in the country….I don’t think that’s been true for a couple of years.

If CKD wants to keep his job beyond this year, he better find an effective front 7 on defense. And I dont think he has the DC to deliver it. These small ball coaches only learn how to coach one way which trying to rely on speed and zone concepts. And CKW is a small ball coach. At least CPG had the opportunity to work under Saban to tamper some of that down.

Then you get into the SEC where it's mandatory to get hat on a hat and account for every gap, these small ball coaches get exposed.

I keep seeing “competitive” and “prepared mentioned by guys, but tell me how YOU would have game-planned for FSU today. I get there’s “last year”… but the circumstances CKD faced then are different in 25. He’s not handcuffed any longer.

I’m not saying we don’t have issues, but no coach in America could have come in with a great game plan today unless he totally lucked out.

Not so sure about that. Maybe for starters reviewed game film from Malzhans time at the Barn? They didn’t do anything extra from that.

What little passion I had for college football was pretty much extinguished today.

I think you speak for a lot of us. I didn't see a whole lot of enthusiasm out there today, even early before the onslaught began. Money corrupts everything. When "how much can I get" is the main concern how can the game survive? It's not really a game anymore in the sense it used to be.
