****Official Postgame Thread - Bama vs. GSU****

I'm sweet & sour on our redzone playcalling today. From 20 to 5 I'm scratching my head. But from 5 on in, I'm clapping my hands. Love wheeling Trent out of the backfield. Love getting our TEs in the flats. On the high end, it's imaginative. But on the low end, it's at least a break in tendency. Loved it.

45-14 would have put us solidly at #2 this week, regardless of what Oregon does. But giving up that extra TD may be just enough to make voters think twice about Bama and Oregon. Really hope SC knocks them off tonight!!

Really? Cos Oregon gives up 21+ like every game.

Oregon would have scored about 60 on GSU but would have easily given up 30+

we still have fans on here wailing and crying about the first half. come on guys, please be educated about games like this and stop acting like we dont know the script. i had high hopes that i wouldnt see the first half crying game bc our fans are so much better than other fans. unfortunately i was reminded yet again that we have passionate fans, but otherwise we are the exact same as a lot of fan bases

Glad that game is over. It was a tough game for Bama to get through. Proud of the team for sticking with it and pulling out a pretty good win. Smelley had a great last game in BDS; Congrats to him!

Probably so. But we're in a beauty contest here, and we need to deliver what voters expect to see. And I just think there's a big psychological difference for the typical voter in seeing Alabama give up 14 versus 21 to a FCS team. They expect Oregon to win 60-30 but they expect us to win by something like 40-10. Seeing that 21 up there will make them stop and think. That's what I think at least.

We never figured the option out, so your point is pretty much wrong. I figured we would control them better on defense. But as usual with FCS teams they do not have the defense to stay in this game. Not enough quality cornerbacks to cover 3 WR sets and just not enough strength to stand up to the run. Thankfully I was right on half of my prediction. Roll Tide, glad we got the last TD cause people will only look at the final, and they will discount this game cause no one else runs the triple option.

Following Izzy Gould's recap of Saban's presser:

- MRI on Lowery doesn't look promising
- Chapman played all year on bad knee - docs said it was time to sit
- JW had food poisoning last night.

Whew.

Special teams has some work to do.

I think you can count on it. Frazier is a good fit for it and they don't have much else going for them.

Some postgame notes:

Trent Richardson 32 carries for 175 yards, 2 rushing TDs, 1 receiving TD.

Fourth time this season T-Rich has gone 160yds+ on the ground this season

A.J. McCarron 14-of-19 for 190 yds, 3 TDs, 0 Ints.

Brad Smelley 4 catches, 58 yds, 2 TDs; Brandon Gibson 4 catches, 49 yds; Marquis Maze 3 catches, 44 yds.

Mark Barron 8 tackles; Quinton Dial 8 tackles.

Saban: 'Been a tough week for us defensively (prepping for Ga Southern's triple option attack). Glad it's over.'

Will Lowery suffers knee injury in game. Will have MRI tomorrow. Saban: 'It's not promising.'

Josh Chapman has been playing all season with a bad knee, Nick Saban said. Docs said it was time to shut him down.

Jesse Willams had food poisoning last might, Saban said.

Saban addressed team this morning regarding BCS.

Saban, "We're not worried about the national championship."

Saban: You have to play well. Nothing else matters.

Saban trying to make a point about staying focused on the task at hand and not worrying about what Alabama can't control. Talking to the team through the media

Bama hopes to have Jones (ankle), Hanks (ankle), Chapman (knee), Gentry (suspension), White (suspension) back for Auburn.

Damion Square on Ga Southern's offense: 'What they do they do to perfection.'

I know what you're saying, and I get it to an extent. This is from another thread, but it's an applicable response here too.

A. The media didn't watch this game. They'll look at the scores for the top 25 teams, they'll see that we won by 4 scores and that's all that will really matter. You'd be surprised at how few games the talking heads actually watch. Most of them were busy with the Nebraska-Michigan game, the UK-UGA game or the Wisconsin-Illinois game. I promise you that outside of the highlight reel, most talking heads wont even notice that this game took place.

B. It wasn't on cable and because it was an FCS team, no one will be talking about it other than those of us who are nitpicking.

C. Oregon routinely gives up 20 points a game. This is the first time we've done it all season.

D. For those of you thinking we'll get slighted by the media, you're worrying too much. Everyone stands to make more money if we're in the Championship game against LSU. The SEC is the most watched and most valuable league in the land. The Pac-12 is not.

I was holding my breath waiting to get lambasted by the national folks....but the first thing out of Brando's mouth when they ran our highlights was (rightfully) that GaSouthern was a QUALITY FCS opponent. So maybe this won't be as bad as I thought.
