Bama Game Thread: Official PostGame Thread - Bama vs. UGA...

Guys, debating yes/no on the 4th down deep in our territory is NOT why we lost.

But I don't understand those who think we should punt down 2 TDs at that point in the game. If we convert and score a TD to make it 21-14, Kirby might have wet his pants.

I think a big reason we lost is the same reason we lost the Oklahoma game… our special teams are special in the wrong way and Ty isn’t as sharp as he needs to be

I honestly don’t know if he would stay or not. Plus we don’t know if Russell or Mack are better than him.

It’s basically the Danny Wuerfell and Tom Brady argument. There were logical reasons to pass on them by well established and well respected people in charge. It’s easy to Monday morning quarterback. I bet alot of people in Ohio complain on Day letting Burrow walk too.
Fair but he's really talented. I haven't watched him a ton but every time I do I'm impressed. Granted started rough today

So Kirby is a high flying risk taker. You’ve obviously never watched him coach.

He did try to sneak Justin Fields in a punt formation on 4th and 8 during a tied game with the playoffs on the line, and tried for a touchdown instead of the tie on 4th down during the first game vs us. So he does gamble in big moments in big games when logic and rationale says not to.

It's been beaten to death, but Grubb doesn't seem to have a package to handle pressure. A simple little shovel pass and the receiver would still be running...
This is spot on. Against AU, they were rushing 6 guys and killing Ty. The 2 wides and slot are 20 plus yards down field. The middle 5-10 yards is uncovered. I truly think Grubb got lucky with Pennix and 2 first round wideouts at Wash. he is a Doug Rader/BOB level OC. He’s going to drag DeBoer down.

The blocked punt was because of the high snap. It made the punter have to take an extra step.

I think that one play set in motion the momentum for the rest of the game.

But Ty's INT was probably even worse in terms of how their defense felt they could pin their ears back because Ty didn't have it like he did in Sept.

A screen, draw, or slant would do wonders. Don’t overthink it. He doesn’t trust our run either. 3rd and 2 after two runs to open and we try a receiver sweep. Just big boy them for 2 yards. That set the tone for the game. Then the next 2 series. A run on first down with minimal yardage which predictably meant passing on 2nd down killed us.

As far as Ty goes, missing the open receiver on the 4th and 2 has been a recurring theme the last half of the season. In the Auburn game there were several check downs and easy throws he simply didn’t see. Same versus Oklahoma.

I have to believe he is playing at about 75% or less physically. Guy has been beaten to death.

The 3rd down call right before it might be more offensive than going for it on 4th, and then 4th down sure seems like the time to use your "2 point play" that you know is gonna give you the best shot

I thought we had to go for it. Would've felt like we were mailing it in if we didn't

I know I'm mad because of the loss and the way we lost.......but that 4th and 2 call is really bothering me.

That should have never been the call......from either the OC or the QB audible.....and the throw was the absolute worst possible throw to the lowest percentage receiver.

Make the playoff....don't make the playoff.....all I can think of about this season now is that 4th and 2 atrocity.

I guess at the end of the day I don’t see why you let a guy struggle like Ty evidently was tonight without giving him a series or two on the sideline … it makes no sense to me but again not paid to make those decisions… my evaluation as a fan is that KD has some strides to make to be the coach that gets his team into the playoffs. I think he is a great person but may be a three to four loss coach each year he is here. If that’s what we are gunning for we have a good one.
