I was at Lowe's today and saw this item being demonstrated. As I understand the demonstration this is an infrared cooker. A gas burner located in the bottom heats air in the circular chamber around the food container.
From all my training and experience frying is done in some kind of oil. If the temperature is right the oil does not penetrate the food item but allows the inside juices to cook the meat. But as I understand frying there must be oil otherwise it is called baked, broiled, grilled, steamed, boiled or poached. This I believe is an infrared oven since there is no oil therefore calling it a fryer is a mistake.
This makes cooking a turkey safer but it's not the same as fried turkey.
