Oklahoma vs Ohio State

A lot of this stems from the game in Norman last year. Urban stomped on our logo at midfield, and the team sang the Ohio State fight song at midfield after the game. Not too much was made of it then because they kicked our butts and we deserved to be mocked. This is common at the OU-Texas game every year. I don't know, probably would have been better if he hadn't done it.
Glad to read an old school response to a silly gesture.

I don't think much about the flag stuff or leading bands after games...it just gives the losers a chance to wring their hands and go on about sportsmanship and such. I don't think doing it is enough of a thing to even consider it an insult...The winner gets to strut a little. And what about our band playing Rammer Jammer after a game?

I've grumped about Peyton leading the band...but I was in on the joke.He made a perfect villain for the Bama fan base... kind of like the Riddler in the Batman series. So now Ohio State, excuse me, The Ohio State has a new villain. And we've already got an Ohio State fan here having a little fun with it.

Even the language used to describe the "offenses" shows some humor. The flag was balanced on it's pole end at mid-field, but this is "planting." And from the other side...we've got an Oklahoma guy describing Urban "stomping" on the Ok logo at their midfield. It sounds to me like we are all enjoying our indignation. Cause, yes, I'm still upset over Peyton. :)

One of my most delicious memories from college football was when the Oklahoma band struck up "Yeah Alabama" while playing Texas A & M, with the scoreboard reading 77-0. It was what Fran had coming, but I'm sure he thought it was classless and going too far.

I had no idea that occurred. So Urban himself actually stomped on the logo?
No, he didn't. I have watched the entire game, with post-game, many times. He did not. The team sang the alma mater (not our fight song), as they do after every victory. They did it in the center of the field, just as many, many teams do after victories. But it was in no way meant to disrespect OU. This is never meant as disrespect. I have never heard of a program getting upset at a team for singing their alma mater on the field after a victory.

Sorta like us doing Rammer Jammer. :)

I bet he may have unintentionally stepped on the midfield logo after the game, but it sounds much better to say he stomped it. Kind of like describing a flag as having been planted when it was just temporarily stood up on the end of the pole.

I feel like half the people commenting on this haven't seen what happened but maybe just read the headline. Mayfield ran down the sideline of the stadium carrying an OU flag. He then ran to the OSU logo at midfield and attempted to plant the flag but failed miserably as the flag just fell over. From there, Mayfield and OSU celebrated for a few moments at midfield and that was it. It's not like the flag was actually planted and they stood around and took pictures. Baker Mayfield is sophomoric and a goon and this is just another incident on the long list of things he may regret very soon IRT the NFL draft. I'd prefer that Alabama not celebrate this way but to me it wasn't a big deal..

You realize that he attempted to plant the flag and only failed because it was artificial turf, right? He was too stupid to understand that it would be impossible. One is a total falsehood while the other is not.

Remember that game when the little Boomer Sooner chuck wagon raced out and promptly turned over. Now that was funny.

Just trying to lighten the moment. Continue...:)

Baker Mayfield has publicly apologize for his antics after the game. He should of followed that up with an apology to the OSU defense because what he did to that defense is illegal in most states..

Not to change the topic too much but can someone explain the rational for having Ohio State ranked above Florida State?

Neither looked that great in their one big game so far, and Ohio State did not lose its starting QB and thus should be a better team at this juncture. (Yes I acknowledge that OSU's starting QB has struggled badly).

That probably wouldn't be the case if Francois was healthy. But, now that FSU has to play a true freshman at QB, I think that gives OSU a slight advantage in the polls at this time. I don't think that perceived advantage will hold up if FSU wins some of their tougher games - Clemson, Louisville, Miami, UF etc.

So, I get how that would hurt Florida State's overall ranking but not in comparison to Ohio State. One got curb stomped at home the other played tough but ultimately never really threatened to win at a neutral site. Are we sure a TF Florida State QB is worse than Barrett? I guess I just saw more holes in Ohio State as an overall team than I did for Florida State.

With FSU not playing this week, no one knows how they'll be with the new QB. Benefit of doubt goes to Ohio State.

Plus, one team is .500 while the other is .000. Right or wrong, I'm sure some media member used that thinking.

I also think the cancelled game for FSU (vs Louisiana Monroe) hurt them. I know it wasn't a big game but they'd probably be ahead of Ohio State at this point if they'd played that game. I think the combination of that + the forward looking optics of having a true freshman at QB kept Ohio State barely ahead for now..

I'm just trying to explain what I believe the voters' logic is, not necessarily what I believe. I honestly don't know who I'd pick between OSU and FSU on a neutral field right now. Ohio State got beat by a mediocre Virginia Tech team at home in 2014 and we all know how that season turned out.

True, I hadn't thought about that aspect of it.

Yea I got that sorry, didn't mean to sound like I was attacking you at all. I just think its odd. Idk who I would pick either I'm just a little surprised by the ranking order. Ohio State could very well bounce back and go on to be a playoff team but it is a little concerning that they seemed flat 2 games in a row or really 3 if you count last years playoff game.
