Old Timer Topic-Your Most Memorable John Forney Radio Game

My favorite Forney calls were USC 1971 and Tenn 1972. One I can't forget was Tenn 1966 (me and my brother on our knees praying) when Wright missed the field goal.

One thing I don't understand is not having a pregame segment of Forney calls at Bryant Denny. I love what they do but can you imagine how fired up everyone would be after hearing John Forney. If anyone has connections, see if you can make this happen.

Forney wasn't the most technically proficient announcer, but he was an unabashed homer. I'll always respect him for that.

My favorite call, on any number of occasions, was, "HE'S GOT THE BALL!" Followed by several seconds of silence.

Not a clue as to who had the ball, or what he was doing with it. Just me and my buddies kind of alternating between looking at each other and looking at the radio, palms up, fingers spread waiting for the rest of the story.

God love him, he wasn't the announcer any more, but exited this world with two great wins -- Alabama over Auburn in Legion Field when Freddie Kitchins went no-huddle without the coaching staff's knowledge, and Dennis Riddle ripped the boogs' hearts out with less than 30 seconds to go. Followed by Dwayne Rudd's 87-yard interception return against Michigan in the Hall of Fame Bowl in Tampa.

wasnt he the guy that said one time concerning Smokey, "if I had my deer rifle Id drop him where he stands"?
