Neal McCready on his radio talk show Yesterday had this to offer

"If Kramer was still in power, that official would have been summoned to his
office and after a few whiskeys the guy would have been told he was fired.
I guarantee it. No doubt, the guy would have been fired. A lot of the difference in the season UT is having now and what they have had in the past is the fact the protection is gone."

I almost wrecked my car. Out in the daylight for all to see the air is filled with the facts of what every Bama and SEC fan has known and screamed about for years. McCreaddy didn't think there was a call there and said so. We all know it doesn't make any difference what they think in Knoxville the win is in the books and Fulmer is in the toilet. How fulmer got away with what he has is a disgrace to a fine conference. RTR

What is also great about right now is that we can say things like your post, and it can't be called an "excuse".

The past few years anything we may have said like this would have been viewed as Bammers excuse to losing. Can't have excuses if you're not losing ;)

What’s funny is the play that DJ HALL caught the ball but was ruled out of bounds for the TD. The Ref had the flag in his had ready to throw it for pass interference but pushed it back in his pocket when DJ still caught the ball.

Pass interferences

The refs also called Madison for a pass interference on a long high pass. Not sure what the ref was looking it. Madison had position and the WR pushed him in the back. It should have been Off. pass interference. That play helped set-up UT's only score (FG).

I watched the play on the video snippet, and, while Hall did touch the DB, it looked like he was looking at the ball, and trying to determine where the DB was. I saw no noticeable motion caused by the contact (either by Hall or the DB). If the contact had been strong enough to cause the DB had fallen away from Hall, or vice versa, then the ref might have called it. Receivers and DBs touch each other all the time, but if the contact doesn't change the trajectory or momentum of the players, it is not called. The ref was looking right at the play and did not call anything; he didn't even start to reach for his flag.
It shows how far the Vols have fallen that they have to reach for such excuses.
And, more to the point, was the open admission that Kramer was watching out for the interests of UT. Hardly surprising from our perspective, but to hear it openly admitted says a lot.

I have to disagree with this assessment. Madison did (IMHO) commit pass interference on that play. The reason the call was made was because BEFORE Madison turned around he had mugged the receiver. This happened right in front of us and I've reviewed it on my Tivo and it was definitely interference in my opinion.

Shoe on the other foot

Before we get too high and mighty about Fulmer's protection being over, take a breath and think about the fact that many people in the conference think to this day that Coach Bryant enjoyed the same type of treatment while he was here. I am not in a position to know if either is true, but let's all make sure we don't let our good feeling about this season make us say things we might later regret. Myself most of all.

Now, how about a big "Roll Tide" for our bunch that has scratched and clawed its way to 7-0?

Dear Bama Steve

No, you are not in a position to say what you did, but are certainly entitled to your opinion. Coach Bryant NEVER went after another program the way the SEC, NCAA and Fulmer went after Alabama. We were able to recruit the cream of the crop and recall in a few games Alabama getting the short end of a real big ugly stick when coach Bryant was here. I don't feel our elation over the opening of the black dark doors of the NCAA, Kramer Fulmer connection is anything but justified. This program, this University of so much history, drug thru the mud on the word of someone like Fulmer. What bothers me now are the loud voices who for so long were silent. Everyone seemes to have known what was going on but no one would print it. Alabama paid the price. Coach Bryant 's legacy is solid and your comment, I feel, unjustified.

Let's finish this off in reality. Coach Bryant passed away a long, long time ago. Who of importance from that era is still around? That was 22 years ago. I'm going to be 39 years old soon and remembering Coach Bryant and all the huances surrounding him are very, very hard for me.

You are exactly correct. His legacy is solid and the comments are unjustified from a 39 post count poster.

If I recall correctly...

...there was a flag on "The Catch" for pass interference on the defense. So if he had not made the catch, we would have at least been 15 yards further downfield.

Of course that was a few weeks ago and you know what they say about age and short-term memory!

No Pass Interference

I agree that DJ's hands touched the defender and did not push in order to get position. In the ref's and my opinion it was not pass interference.

I didn't see a flag thrown

True...but I opened the thread expecting it to be about "The Catch."--Pro's catch against USM. Apparently, I wasn't the only one with that expectation. After all, that has been "The Catch" that everyone was talking about all season (Until Sat.) when they referred to "The Catch." After all, there is a DMoore print entitled "The Catch" which sold over 3700 copies.

No pass interference. He placed his hands on the shoulder pad and then pulled them back. There was no push motion. The DB's momentum didnt shift.

The announcers who are usually quick to say things like "he got away with a push there" said nothing, no official, the DB, or any UT coaches argued about any flag.

Sounds like sour grapes on some parts.

Now this should have been pass interference or defensive holding, yet no flag! hmm

No penalty, sorry! :biggrin2:

You people really are.......

All he said was that there were people who thought that Coach Bryant got some favorable treatment - how do YOU know that he did not? Some of my family is from Georgia, Tenn and Miss - just ask some of the oldsters about Alabama's seemingly "luck". Now I am not saying anything about Coach Bryant - but believe me - others don't feel toward him like we do.

They don't feel that way because

they didn't have him.
I am one of the old timers who was there in the Bryant era.
I can't say one way or the other if there was favorable treatment.
I can say we had the best players, the best coach and the hardest work
ethic of any team in the conference. He is gone, God rest his soul, but in good measure because of him we are the football dynasty of the south.
