It's a business decision by him and a very smart one. He doesn't work for ESPN or FOX Sports. He appears to be independently operated and doing it on is own. Which means, he has to navigate a lot more carefully than the big dogs of sports entertainment and information.

He works for CBS and 247. That’s why he says overwhelmingly good things about Dodd and Gary.

There is a particular story that he outright lies about regarding Nick Saban because if he tells the truth it would probably close a lot of doors.

My point is that he isn’t as independent as people want to believe or does he give his true opinion as much as he lets on.

I guess I'm in the minority. I watched the entire video - not just 2 minutes - and I thought he did a good job, given the questions he was asked. Most were general questions that didn't elicit a very specific response.

I have to say I can't remember any Coach Bryant interview where he said anything other than "coach speak" or "poor mouthing" before the season or a game. If we were playing VPI you would think that Bama was two touchdown underdog when coach Bryant was interviewed before the game. The Bama football review wasn't anymore enlightening than what was happening on the screen. I think we expect a bit much to satisfy our "armchair" QB mentality on social media.

Saban's pressers were a masterclass of saying something substantial without giving away important gameplan details or protected health status. His responses often include life lessons that apply to all of us, or are detailed back-channel messages to the team.

If I were CKD, I would collect a sample of Saban press conferences, and put them into ChatGPT (or your favorite LLM) and have it extract the style or method. LLMs are remarkably good at this. You then use this extraction as a prompt to generate template responses for the questions you are likely to be asked, by giving it a bullet list of information that can be revealed.

I just got so used to Coach Saban's method, and it is tough to get used to DeBoer's style. Saban was the absolute master at communicating an obvious message that kept the fan glued to the screen, but didn't divulge anything that would give the opponent or the media ammunition. My guess is that the longer DeBoer is here and the more comfortable he gets in his role as HC, he'll develop. I don't ever expect him to be as good as Coach Saban, though; no one I recall has done it as well as he did.
