Cannot not like what JP is saying about KR.

He says what most are thinking about TS in terms of this year, but anytime you get a remote comparison to "Tua" that's good enough for me!

I think this just confirms my opinion that Ty is a massive favorite to win the job but if Russell wins the job its probably the best case scenario because he would have had to out play Ty but a lot to win the job.

Curious why this guy gets posted on here a lot, does he actually have any inside access? I just have a hard time listening to him as he just seems like a random guy podcast speaking as an outsider and avg x&o knowledge. If I remember right he was one of the people hyping the oline and stuff last year.

Some people here like him a lot. He mostly seems to have the same type of info/rumors we have. To me when he says stuff like this it just validates what I've read/heard elsewhere more than anything.

Josh Pate understands what college football is, and more importantly what college football should be.

That’s interesting I suppose.

Most have compared him to Jayden Daniels.

Of course Pate also said last years O-Line would be on par with 2012

So grain of salt and all that.
So, to be clear, the comparison was not to Tua's style but JP said when we finally get to see him in Crimson we'll have one of those "aha" moments like when we first saw Tua in backup to Jalen in 2017. JP just thinks he's got "it" in the sense he's got God-given abilities that are special.

FWIW, you are correct that many compare him to Daniels, which is not a bad thing either. I wonder if that comparison is more how they are tall and skinny?

I think it's just the tall and skinny part right now. I'm really optimistic about KR after seeing him in the all-star games, but Daniels wasn't what we think of him now as a true freshmen either, and there was a lot of growth and learning that happened.

If Pate is right that KR has all the right stuff going on above the shoulders (like Tua) then we'll be in great shape with him.

I don't know if it's fair to describe it as a battle. I'm certain Ty will be the starting QB. I have no doubt that DeBoer has already reached that decision but he wants all of them to keep practicing hard so he's not going to make if official this early.

Daniels definitely wasn't what he has become. But he wasn't too bad either. 2,900 passing yards, 17 Tds only 2 Ints, 60% completion percentage. Not Heisman winning numbers or anything but not too shabby for a true freshman.

It's interesting to note the similarities in JD's freshman stats at ASU and his Jr. stats at LSU. Almost identical!

I can't remember much about the '22 version of LSU, but it makes me wonder if Kelly just didn't know what he had in him that year? Or, was it a case of JD just coming into his own in 2023 because that's the year he blew up!

agreed - not bad at all for a TF and I think that reinforces my thoughts, in that even for many really, really good QBs like JD, it can take a while to get to the ceiling, and we probably shouldn't place too high expectations on a TF. Giving them time to adjust to the higher speed and expectations of the college game seems to work out for them and their teams more often than not.
