Personally, I'm shocked. Great hire for Arkansas and good move for Petrino. I'm surprised that he left after one year, but if your heart isn't in it, what is the point? Two years ago, would anyone have been able to predict Saban to Bama, Houston Nutt to Ole Miss, Petrino to Ark, and Sly Croom as SEC Coach of the Year?

Guys, I love the SEC. I really do. 3 or 4 years from now when the new coaching staffs across the conference get their programs rolling, the SEC Championship will mean more than the BCS...not that it didn't already. :biggrin2:

I dont see Cowher coaching next season.Maybe in 2 years but I think he was really burned out and needs at least 2 years to recoup.Plus I think he wants to wait until all of his girls are done with college.

Wishful thinking, I hope Blank can open up the purse on his next coaching hire

The Falcon's starting FB, Obee Moughale (sp), was on 680theFan in Atlanta when the news broke that Petrino resigned to take the Arkansas job. He was shocked and sounded a bit upset as he said that Petrino has been telling everyone not to quit, to finish strong. And now Petrino quit on the Falcons before the season was even over.

D'Angelo Hall and Roddie White are punks and they show what is wrong with the Falcons. Roddie running around with his "Free Mike Vick" shirt on during last nights game and D'Angelo calling his coach out every chance he got. Until these "Me" type players are gone I will not support them anymore. The Falcons just need to clean house and get unselfish players instead.

Great , just absofrickinlutely great-- 3 years from now there will be no cellar dwellars in the west just a bunch of 8-4 teams oh and Bama t 10-2 as champs ! But this is amazing that the coaches in the west are gonna be so tough.

I dont think the media will bury Petrino for these reasons.
1. Petrino goes to ATL before Pit Bull "Gate". Petrino lost his QB and all has gone downhill since.
2. Petrino has not declared that he would stay in ATL.
3. Media has been sympathetic to Petrino.
4. It sounds like it will be a huge pay cut. From over $4 mill. to the high $2mill or $3 mill range.

pay cut? you obviously didnt figure in the wally world employee discount that he will get at arky and of course he gets a life time supply of chicken. so it really aint that bad. is it?

Petrino is in the first year of a five-year contract that is worth $ 24. 5 million. Petrino also apparently has a prohibitive buyout, though the figure has not been released.

Somebody at Arky must've written a big check.

I like this move for Arkansas, I really do. Even if McFadden leaves, Petrino won't left with his cubbard bare. He will still have Felix Jones. Not to mention a couple he still has a couple of 4 star TEs in Grant Freeman, and David Williams. So, Petrino will have potentially a good offense next yr. Which means, Alabama will have to continue.

IMO, I tihnk Petrino coming to the SEC, could open the door to Miles leaving. Even if Miles and LSU wins the NT, it will be extremely hard for him to get back to another NT game while in the SEC. So, until Michigan hires a new HC, the possibility of Miles to Michigan is real.

the coaching game ,especially in the sec, has become a drag race. there is a saying that sums it up pretty well in regards to drag racing. "speed costs money, how fast do you want to go?"

falcons have 2:00 presser, tommorrow. I keep hearing saban comments in this on local radio, but, CNS waited until the seasin was over! Maybe the press treatment of CNS made it neccessary for Petrino to quit midseason!
