I don't know that this is exactly breaking news - surely expected to a certain extent- but a good friend of mine just called and said he once again has secured our Independence bowl tickets to watch Bama play Colorado.

Each year that Bama has played in Shreveport he has secured our tickets because he is friends with a member of the Independence Bowl committee. This committee member said that the decision has been made, they want Bama back in Shreveport. I was hoping for more but in all honestly this or the Cotton Bowl is probably the only feasible chance I get to see Bama play post season. RTR!!!

I know it would be fun for the seniors, but right now, I am not all that thrilled about a bowl game against Podunk U or anyone else of equal level.

I hope very few fans take the same attitude about the bowl game. It wasn't the finish we wanted sure, but it's just the start of something that looks to be beautiful. The support that we started with will be hard to sustain but keeping as much as we can behind Our Program and University is important to.

Whatever Bowl we get I'll be there if I can missed last year due to a family illness but I'll dang sure make this one if nothing comes up.

Just like away games, students are allotted the same percentage of the school's total bowl ticket allotment as they are road trip tix. They are available based on hours earned at UA just like road trip tix. Unless I'm mistaken, the student must have purchased season tix, as well. With the 3/4 game packages this year, I'm not sure how that part would work. Regardless, it wouldn't hurt to avail yourself of other options if indeed you are interested.

I think it's the winner of UCF/Tulsa.

I'm hearing the Liberty Bowl will not select South Carolina again. They're the farthest away geographically, were there last year, and likely won't travel as well this year due to the disappointing finish to the season. A no-brainer.

Mississippi State is bit a more intriguing. They are close geographically, have a decent alumni/fan base in Memphis (good for tickets, bad for hotels & restaurants), and are bowl-starved which usually means decent travel. The feel-good story with Croom and his first bowl would also drum up some local ticket sales.

Alabama is very appealing to them. The Coach Bryant anniversary is an obvious marketer's dream from TV to T-Shirts to tickets. We'll bring a lot of folks (size of the fan base, easy drive for most, still enthused over Saban, bullish on the future, etc). Liberty Bowl officials scouted Alabama as early as the Vandy game, salivating over the chance to pick us.

The only hitch to the Liberty Bowl snagging Alabama would be the SEC office politics. Shuffling Croom and MSU to the bottom of the bowl pecking order would likely generate some negative press. The Liberty Bowl had to scratch, claw, and beg their way to an SEC tie-in, and they may be hesitant to defy the wishes of the league office should Slive and company nudge MSU their way.

Mississippi State has 7 wins to our 6. My understanding was that, by rule, all 7-win teams had to be chosen before any 6-win teams could be. So, even if the Liberty wants Alabama over MSU, I'm not sure they'll have that option.

I'm thinking another trip to scenic Shreveport.

As long as there is a bowl left for a 7 win team, a "higher pick" can select a 6 win team over a 7 win one. So, the Liberty COULD pick us, which would force the Indy Bowl to take MSU. I think politics will play into the Liberty Bowl decision, and we'll end up in Shreveport.
