They look just like new guinea impatiens, I guess just a different regional name for same thing?

Closely related but the New Guineas don't take sun very well.

Had to run by Mom's on Saturday and while making a provision run to the Winn Dixie saw this fellow who ran his rat rod into a retention pond.

I heard him tell the LEO's that another driver was pulling out of the intersection there to make a left turn and suddenly changed their mind and went right - swinging out wide and into his lane. Said he had to swerve to avoid a collision.

I didn't see any other drivers so I guess they just kept going. Oblivious to their reckless behaviour's consequence, no doubt.

Important thing is no one was hurt and looks like the engine probably escaped water damage.

FB post today by someone else:

New Smyrna in WW2 . Civil Patrol in town to be sure all windows were blacked out after dark. Bread and gas ration tickets for those who qualified. No civilian allowed on the beach side.. The ice trucks and food delivery allowed. German U-boats (subs) trying to get through the inlet. The Navy base can be seen across from the old fort by the little north bridge. My mother married one of those sailors back then and moved to Norfolk and never came back home for 50 years. The end of Canal street where the Gulf oil company had its docks can be seen. Samsula air port was the place the Navy threw its BBQs and party's. I was there to see the greased pig chase and people trying to climb the greased flag pole. We sat at the radio for the war news each night after supper. Now we are at war in the middle east and you wouldn't even know it walking down canal street today.
