Pick the score - Alabama vs. Penn State

Bama 3 to 2 in a slobber-knocker! The heavens will open up! Hopefully, the game will be played in its entirety.

However, I'm hoping 35 to ZIP!

Boys will become MEN in this one!
I hope we're the ones that leave Happy from Happy Valley on Saturday.

JoePa, this could be a tough one even on the sidelines. For the benefit of your HEALTH, please stay in the Press Box. We need you around for a few more years at Penn State.

After a 4-INT preformance against Kent St I just don't see CNS putting this game on the backs of our QB's, especially in the hostile environment of Happy Valley. PSU also returns 6-DB's who started games in 2010.

We had great success running the ball against a 2010 PSU team that returns the bulk of their defensive line and a LB core that under impressed through the 2010 campaign. Trent averaged 6.5 YPC against the Lions last year behind a Bama OL that returns everyone except James Carpenter at LT. I look for CNS to establish the pass by first establishing the run helping our young QB's settle in and taking the crowd out of the game. I expect to see Bama take advantage of PSU on the edges. Our speed at the skill positions is our strength in this game. Bama will control momentum and the clock by pounding the ball on the ground and utilizing screen passes to get our skill players the ball on the edge. JMO

They will let the grass grow to three or four inches, and if it rains it will negate some of our speed.

According to the press up there, they will be sky high after circling this game on the schedule after last year. (However, everyone we play is the same way, so that isn't unusual)

If we have ball security, we should gradually pull it out. 10 points might be about right, but I would take a 1 point win and move on.

I predict a low scoring affair. Our defense will shut them down, and our offense will be finding its way. My prediction 10-3 Bama.

IMO it all depends on the Oline. if they play much better it will be bama by 10 or more. If they play like they did last week then Penn State may come out on top

24-13 bama if the online blocks this week.

20-14 Bama. QB mistakes, OL shuffling, and bad field conditions keep Penn State in this one for 3 quarters. Bama chews up clock buy running off tackle (a strenth for Bama and a weakness for Penn State). A tired Penn State defense finally loses the 4th quarter.

I didn't see much of Penn State's opener against FCS Indiana State, but looking at the box score it appears that they ran the ball well. However, they got very little from the passing game at all. Not sure if this was by design, or if there were legitimate struggles. My point is that if PSU struggled offensively against an FCS team, I just can't fathom their offense being productive at all against a healthy, full-speed Alabama defense.

On the flip side, we've got our own offensive issues to sort out. We definitely cannot afford five turnovers in a game like this, and the offensive line needs to get sorted out in a hurry. The run blocking still left something to be desired Saturday. PSU should be improved defensively, and they've got the home-field advantage. I'm not confident that we'll score buckets of points, either.

If we can limit our turnovers and get better production from the running game, I think we should win this one comfortably. However, I'm allowing for some mistakes and miscues. I think we win in the neighborhood of 17-9.

Very low scoring.... I see PS stopping the run early; AJ throws a pick early..... but in the end our defense will win this one for us.
Bama 14
PSU 3

Running the ball well against Indiana State and Alabama are two different things. I'm not sure about the passing either but that's not a good sign if they couldn't pass it against them. Alabama has perhaps the best defense in all of college football.

Let's see, in order to make a prediction, I need to get clarification on a few things.

1. Has the referee that made the incomplete pass ruling on P Gothard's 1983 game winning td retired yet?
2. Has Penn State got the crooked line in the back of the end zone straightened out?
3. If they let the grass grow long to slow us down, doesn't that also slow them down? So, aren't we still faster than them?
4. Would you trade one of our qb's for one of theirs?

If the answers are: Yes, Yes, Yes, No (me either, so why would Jess give PSU the qb edge?), the only logical conclusion is Bama wins 31-6.
