I'm not sure about all the Tide's opponents for obvious reasons. Still I can think of some names that caused problems last season.

Here's a list:
#1. Skyler Green(LSU) (what is this dude made of?)
#2. Carnell Williams(AUB)(you know why)
#3. Marcus Spears(LSU)(Wesley says "Bring it")
#4. Justin Vincent(LSU)(hope he has soph. jinx)
#5. Dustin Colquiit(T)(punts us in holes)
#6. DeCori Bryant(ARK)(gets out of holes)
#7. Jerious Norwood(MSU)(fast)
#8. "Sweet Pea" Burns(K)(he's in your backfield)
#9. Jayson Swain(T)(I got a bad feeling about him and he's from Alabama)
#10.Jason Allen(T)(see #9)

Dont forget Moe Thompson(USC), Demetrius Summers(USC), Mike Espy(OM), and Shane Boyd(K)

Any takers?

Im worried the most about Demetius Summers, I saw him play only a handful of games last year but before he got injured he seemed to be the real deal. We all know about Carnell and Spears and Vincent because we played against them last year but we have yet to meet up with Mr. Summers, I am afraid of the "unknown" in football, it always seems to jump up and bite you.

There's always an intangible when you're talkin football, injuries, he seemed like the real deal, but his injury could hace made him worse and also if you get hurt once you can always get hurt again. 2004's a new and different season for us and all the teams we play, who knows this season LSU could lose every game and Vanderbuilt could go win a National Championship, anything can happen this season.

moobly, if you are referring to "Jarrett Johnson" in your comparison with David Pollock, you're wrong my friend. David Pollock has made a name for himself basically off of 1 play in the SC game 2 years ago. I've watched him in the 2 Bama games, and in other Georgia games live and on FoxSS replays. He's a very good DE, but certainly not "great".He couldn't carry Jarrett Johnson's jockstrap.

Meaner than JJ? Not by a long shot.

We don't play Georgia in the regular season or he would have fell in there. I gotta go with Thomas Jones, David Greene, or Ordell Thurman before I say Pollack. Pollack is just a good leader and inspires his defense.

I would say him and Jarrett have alot in common in terms of heart. Jarrett was my boy, though.

Just Win, before you pee, you need to check the direction of the wind. Johnson was certainly a bad*ss, but Pollack is a more productive player. Dare to compare?
Pollack:
2002: * Led the SEC in tackles for loss with 23 * Set UGA single season record for sacks with 14 * Was named SEC Player of the Year by SEC coaches * Was named SEC Defensive Player of the Year by the A.P. * Was named 1st team All-S.E.C. * Was named 1st team All-American by the Football Writers Association of America
2003: * Won the Ted Hendricks National Defensive End of the Year Award * Was named 1st team All-American * Was named 1st team All-S.E.C. again * Was named 1st team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association.

Pollack is currently 5th on Georgia's all-time career sack list with another year to play and may be only Georgia's 2nd three-time All American (Herschell Walker)

But yes, Jarrett was good.

Not because of outstanding ability, but don't want to meet #5 of Tennessee. He always manages to get in a couple of cheap shots during a game and will likely injure someone seriously next season. Hopefully, it won't be one of our guys cos we can't afford any injury losses.

Actually, #5, Kevin Simon does have outstanding ability, he's likely the most naturally gifted defender on UT. He was the USA Today defensive player of the year coming out of De La Salle, CA in HS...and he's not known as a guy who takes cheap shots...

I don't think he's ever injured anyone via dirty/late/cheap hit...

He had to redshirt his freshman year after tearing his ACL in a high school all-star game, then broke his leg in the 3rd or 4th game of the season two years ago...last year was Simon's first full year...

You're mistaken...

Yea, but what were his stats in 2003? He got all those awards based on his 2002 season. Awards are all hype and until you actually win a championship....you're all hype, IMO. Georgia won the SEC in 2002 and some people just want to give them the rest because it's a safe bet.

I love it when a guy just comes out of no where, and proves he's just as good.

BTW, JJ played tackle for the majority of his career. DP is a defensive end.

Moobly,
I'm not doubting your statistics, but why even compare a DE to a DT anyway? I'm simply saying, that if I found myself in a barfight, I'd much rather have JJ than DP. JJ was a tougher, meaner type, whereas DP seems to be just quick off the ball. I guess my point is that if I were an opposing quarterback, I'd much rather see DP coming at me full speed than JJ, from the standpoint of how hard I was about to be hit. Stupid comparison though, even to talk about. Like comparing a linebacker vs. a cornerback. RTR.

Just Win,

My understanding of the topic was what players should be a concern to us next year. It wasn't about who we'd rather have in a barfight. Also, I never compared D.P. vs. J.J. - I only characterized D.P. in terms of some of J.J.'s attributes. Using someone to describe another is not an A vs. B situation/comparison. I listed some of D.P.'s accolades but did not list any of J.J.'s, so no comparison was made there, either. No offense to J.J. or you - he was a bad boy for sure.

UT's Kevin Simon may not even be UT's best linebacker named Kevin from California. Keep an eye on #2 Kevin Burnett from Carson, CA. Burnett had a stellar 2001 campaign as a sophomore. He suffered a season-ending injury in the 2002 opener. His return in 2003 may have been before he was entirely healthy, but he had a good season. He flirted with the idea of declaring early, but was not projected at the top by the scouts. Burnett thus stayed at UT for 2004.

Considering that 2002 was a wipeout and that in 2003 he was not the game-altering player that many projected, he has a final senior campaign to realize his potential. If this guy is healthy, he'll be one of the best defensive forces in the SEC IMHO.

This kid is the real deal. I followed him a little in high school and saw him play in the state championship game. He was truly a man among boys out there. He has speed, agility, and can run over most anybody. He and Carnell are very similar and could reek havoc on our depleted defensive line. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up in the running for SEC Player of the Year. I hope the coaching staff has an answer for him.
