Wasn't there a defensive player several years ago that Alabama and auburn were recruiting for football, but decided to play basketball at auburn? I'm guessing he should have played football since I can't remember his name.
I know he didn't play at Bama, but he should have.

The most overhyped player I remember was John Cassimus, He's my age and I remember opening the Saturday morning news hoping to see something about my team and instead I see his ugly mug on the front page "Gods Gift to Mt Brook Runs for another 100 yards!!" Of course none of that was his fault, The news always over hypes Mt Brooks players. Anyway, John showed up on campus with no more athletic skill than I had, in fact I don't think even that much, he never cracked the lineup beyond punt coverage or something like that.

Oh, and John... If your reading this.. Its the cost of fame dude.

I am his age as well. We played against him three times on my Jr High/Freshman/9th Grade team, whatever you want to call it. They (Mtn Brook) lost three games that year. Guess who they lost to. He went on to play over the mountain, and I played at Hueytown vs teams like Jess Lanier, Tusc Co, Tusc Central, Walker Co, and mean bone-crushing teams like that. He and his little finess running team playing in that weak HS league made him have gaudy numbers. He wasn't that good. It also didn't hurt that his dad gave a bunch of money to U of A. John changed positions several times during his 5 yrs, with his best position being running plays in and out of the huddle as a receiver. He had no business playing football at Bama. Not his fault that he was a disappointment. He simply didn't have the skill to play on that level. And what a jackass. I played summer league baseball with this guy after my freshman year in college in a BABF league. He definately wasn't lacking for self confidence or promotion.

Reading the names that appeared on this thread is kind of sad. One that jumped out at me was Junior Sewell. I was at Alabama when he was there, and one of my closest friends was from Abbeville. He told me a story about Junior that makes me wonder about the politics that play a role in who gets playing time.
In practice one day, Junior took a handoff, ran through the tackle of a defensive lineman, over a couple of LBs and DBs, and outran everyone else to the endzone. Then they told Chris (who was from Huntsville) …forgive me, but I am drawing blank on his name…(was it Anderson?) to “run it like Junior runs it.”

Robin Parkhouse, A defensive end for us in the early 70's whom I criticized unmercifully during the Blue Bonnet Bowl with Oklahoma when he seemed to take the wrong slant against the Jack Mildren option every time. He finally guessed right late in the game on a crucial third down and stopped Mildren cold. Unfortunately OK kicked a field goal to tie the game-and after Johnny Musso and Ohio State transfer Dave Brungard led a herculean effort to get us into field goal range "Kansas Cowboy" Richard Ciemeny hooked a 34-yarder to force Coach Bryant to wait until the following September in the L.A. Colliseum for victory 200. Not really a knock on Robin-he helped us beat Archie in '69 by calmly holding him by the facemask as the final seconds ticked away. One of the greatest QB duels I ever saw: Archie vs. Scott Hunter. RTR
