Because they’re……….Notre Dame. I would argue that no name has been more storied throughout the history of the game
And yet they have been almost totally irrelevant for 35 years.

And when the biases put them in the BCS or Playoffs they got blown off the field.

And enough with the "Notre Dame is good for the game" blather from their supporters.

Nurtz to the Golden Domers!

It'll be fun when we have the Big 12 champion with multiple losses in the top 4 simply because they are a conference champ.

Possibly the same with the ACC champ.

SEC champ and Big 10 champ each with 0 or 1 loss, but Big 12 champ I could see being a multiple loss team.

But hey....12 team playoff. I don't even know who is in the Big 12 now.

1. Ohio State 12-0
2. Georgia/Texas 11-1
3. Clemson/Florida State 11-1
4. Okie State/Utah/UCF 9-3

What a joke. Utah is #13 in this poll.....if somehow they win the conference with 3 losses they'd automatically jump to the top 4. Am I wrong on that? Isn't that how this new system works?
Nope!

The committee still decides the pecking order as they did last year...just with more teams to select from.

The four highest-ranked conference champions will be seeded one through four and will receive a first-round bye. The fifth conference champion will be seeded where it was ranked or at No. 12 if it is outside the top 12 rankings. Non-conference champions ranked in the top four will be seeded beginning at No. 5. Because of this, the seeding, 1 through 12, could look different than the final rankings.

Yeah…no

The top 4 seeds go to the 4 highest ranked conference champions, and they get a bye. It’s an absolute joke. People are still operating under the assumption the conferences are even remotely equal.

Seriously?!?

Well, that will change when a conference champion is included with 2 or 3 losses...

Texas suffered a significant injury already. CJ Baxter hurt his knee and is out for the season. I don't know anything about their depth at RB, but that has to really hurt. He was a star as a Fr.

But wait, there is value in winning Podunk Directional Hillside conference. Surely that should have weight in the team evaluation metrics.
