I was wondering what the final score was on the 89 game against Ole miss I heard some high lights of the game on a cd I have were we trailed 21 to nothing but come back to take the lead 24 to 21 I was only 4 when this game was played so I was just wondering thanks

The annual Media Guide for the Tide is a an excellent source for team/player information, past and present. It's available at many large book stores. It's $15 well-spent, IMO.

I was at the game and it is one I will never forget. Ole Miss jumped on us 21 to nothing in the first quarter. It was 48-21 Bama at halftime. It was also Gary Hollingsworth's coming out party and a demonstration of what Homer Smith's offense could do if he was allowed to call plays unimpeded.

Ole Siss turned the ball over or it would've been 28-0 before the Tide awakened .

Ain't that the truth.

Ah...one of my faves. We had moved from Indiana (seriously exiled!) to H'burg (merely "exiled"..) the previous August, & my pa-in-law, bro-in-law, & I journeyed up to Jackson for that thrashing. Church & work were oh-so-much fun the days after that...:biggrin2: I recall looking over @ the UM student section, which after the 1st quarter gave the appearance of a float with a not-so-slow leak.

Ole Miss fans are the most fun to watch when their team is suffering a come-from-behind whipping.

I saw it plenty in the final few games with Southern.

Let me tell you- the Old Miss fans were a-holes that first quarter, then by half they were leaving for the cars.

I remember it as our last trip to Memorial Stadium in Jackson. Thank goodness those days, like going to Lesion Field, are over.

We had played Old Miss many times in the State of Mississippi and I had never seen Old Miss's campus till 1993. To me it is one of the best loking campuses in the SEC. And now that they have improved V-H Stadium it is a nice place to see a football game.

Ole Miss does have a nice campus. I was not able to see much the 1st time I was there in 03, but in 05, I allowed more time to see some of the campus and who could forget the end! 13-10.

Here's what was so rewarding about that game: Brewer ran the score up and rubbed salt in the wound in 1988. Oh Miss(ed) had finally beaten us in 1988 for the first time in 12 years in the game where we had (I think) zero yards passing.

So the next year, we gave them their 21 in the first FIVE MINUTES. Then we hung 48 on them in the next 25. The funny thing was UM not scoring until we had put 62 on them - then they get a TD in the final minute or so and - are you sitting down? - try for two.

Yeah, we sure were scared of losing the game on THAT play!!

I think 7 of those first 21 points was from a blocked punt return for a TD. Once Bama woke up and Ole Miss' emotion wore off, it was all good guys.

I wonder how that would rank as far as the biggest turn-around in ncaa history. From 0-21 to 62-21 is a reversal of 83 points, which is nearly unbelievable. The first half reversal of 69 points is even more unbelievable. The OM fans dang sure experienced an emotional roller-coaster in that game and it must have been particularly galling considering our history of domination over them.

That was my senior year at Bama, and a group of us drove over to Jackson for the game. It was a miserable start, but one of the more memorable wins I've witnessed in person!

How did they run the score up on us? I don't think that scoring two touchdowns in the final moments of a game when you were behind to begin with is running up the score.:conf2:

Alabama lost this game 22-12. IF that's the definition of running up the score on Bama, then I'll take it as a compliment.

I remember that game well. I also have it on tape, it is sweet. I was painting that day and listened to it on the radio.

It is funny now, but Bama's punter in that game is now one of my best friends. He is so big and muscled up you would never recognize him as a punter. I pick at him about that play because he is such a great athlete you do not see many folks get the best of him in competition. The blocked punt was not his fault and it is only funny because of the final score. Heck, I do not think BAMA punted again. :BigA::BigA::BigA::BigA:
