Are players allowed to openly post on internet boards like tidefans? Or do they have to hide who they are?

I keep having the feeling several players may be on this board.

i dont know if there is any kind of policy against it, but i have a feeling it would be a bad idea...the mods would know more about it than me. Of course i doubt they'll bust out and be like "Hey you know alextupelo is actually Simeon Castille."

in fact alextupelo is not simeon castille he actually tim castille.

;)

I can say WITHOUT A DOUBT internet blogs/fan sites are forbidden to any D-1 football players. This is more an NCAA thing. For instance let's say a walk-on player knows a detailed injury report. If he post something about that on the internet, not only is that a violation of the HIPA laws, but it is also against the NCAA. As someone who has been on the inside I can testify that they do not play around with anything like that. Players and support staff are "encouraged" to not even have college fantasy/pick 'em applications on the off chance some one might assume inside information. All this being said the internet is still very annonymous, and we are just college kids.

Hope this helps

I believe Corey Smith, the highly recruited kicker from West Virginia, is a member of bamaonline.com. His membership priviledges have been reduced greatly to prevent unacceptable contact with boosters, etc. *

* I read that on the site, FWIW.

I'm sure the admins around here know who posts around here and there's no telling who can just look at the posts. It would be cool to know who visits, just nothing specific to invade their privacy.

We do have some players registered as members on tidefans.com but I don't see them post. There are family members who do post on message boards.

I know a few guys that post here on the team, including my roomie. But, you would never know. They like to see whats is goin gon and they have A LOT of down time on their hands in between practices.

And, Heaven forbid athletes would do something like Study or Homework in their down time :wink:

Hey Touchdown Timmy,
I always wonderedwhat was the secret to the magnificent "Jumbo" package?????

I guess there would be no way to monitor that - but it seems like a recipe for disaster to me.

For one thing - when fans openly trash-talk a player or coach (which I am dead-set against) - that would sooo bring down encouragement & esteem for a team. (& potentially hurt recruiting - I mean, who the heck wants to play for a team where the fans are that judgemental & trash-talking at every turn.....and hey - I know it happens everywhere- but that doesn't mean it has to happen at UA!!)

PLUS - the fact of a player anonymously reporting schemes or injuries etc - that's just plain lethal.

I'd think it's just a plain out bad idea. I also would hope they wouldnt' have a whole lot of "down time"...for ALL the reasons... ya know, studying, practice, work-outs, girlfriends, what social life can be sandwiched in (but PLEASE - not LATE LATE on the strip !! HA)

If I was a player, I would not be posting, I would be studying, working out, and having a great time. There will be pleanty of that after college. Look at most of us! Heck, I took the day off from work because we are getting a new roof! They have to scrape up the old, what a mess. I just got in from raking leaves. A very productive day and I worked out this morning at 4 am!

As some of you may know, I do a call in show with former players and they will almost all tell you that they do not. After they graduate, they may, but while at school they try to keep focused, have little time and honestly don't need to read the boards since they already know what is going on with them.
