Exactly where I got pulled over. The ticket says 65 north at US 31. I would have still been speeding if the limit was 70, but I didn't pay attention to it going to 60. Lesson learned.

Now why didn't he write the speed limit and how fast I was speeding on the ticket?
Because the ticket is in the system with your specific speeding bracket. Think of the ticket as kind of a receipt for yourself. I guess he just didn't bother because on their end they have it documented.

I got a ticket at the Highway 31 exit on my way to Levy's downtown to pay for my fiancé's engagement ring. The officer didn't care and gave me a ticket. I was able to do driving school online. I paid the court cost of $165 plus the $45 for the driving school.

Okay so Monday I called about my ticket. The lady said my ticket hadn't been received yet since I was just issued it on Friday. She called back today and said I could take an online course or a course in a classroom and just send them $165 for the court cost and a copy of my certificate of the completion of the program. If I took the course at their location, it would only be $150. Weird.

Anyway, she didn't tell me where to take the online course. Do I just pick one for the state of Alabama?

Speaking of Vestavia Hills speed traps, it's super easy to speed (as in, if you don't ride your brakes, you're likely to speed) southbound 31 down the hill past Red Lobster near the Wal-Mart neighborhood market and the public library, and they love to hide around there.

Wow, that's impressive. Were you initially arrested or just ticketed?
Jalopnik: The Most Ridiculous Speed Limits

South Carolina's infamous "Bluffton Speed Trap." In Bluffton, SC, the speed limit on a mostly open 2-lane road is 55 mph, which is completely safe in any car (hell, in a proper sports car, I've tripled that number when no one was around). But there is a section of road about 100 yards long where it drops to 15 mph as you pass a post office and a few houses, and then goes right back to 55. Except there is ALWAYS a cop sitting right there. You see, no one stops in Bluffton, why would they? So a massive revenue stream for the town is this speed trap. It's mostly people who fly into Savannah or Hilton Head from out of town and would never return back just to fight the ticket, so they pay and move on. I got ticketed there for 55 in a 15 and was handcuffed for reckless driving, and given a $1,000 ticket. There is no reason to have an arbitrary drop of 40 mph other than to make those lazy cops' jobs easier.

Wow! Went thru there last tue/wed/thur commuting to some some training we were having down on 280. Never was i going less than 60 thru there...save wednesday afternoon when a wreck up towards oxmore/greensprings had traffic backed up thru there. They coulda gotten me every morning at the bottom of the mountain doing 70mph. Guess i was lucky...or good looking. LOL

Don't pay the ticket...don't go to driving school...don't show up in court. When they come to get you do not cooperate with them. Explain that your taxes pay their salaries (they love to hear this). Then write about this new experience on on TideFans.

The online class has to be state certified. How in the world do I find out if it is state certified? Anyone know?

I've called like four different places including VH Court, and no one can tell me. I found one called I drive safely. It says it is Alabama court approved so will that work?

Alabama Traffic Tickets

Probably. That's the one that is suggested on DMV.org
There is also a ZIP code search at the bottom of the page. Pick one.

This is the one the person in the VH magistrate court said they use.

So I decided to get my first ever speeding ticket today. I have been pulled over before, but I have never received a ticket. The sheet he gave me said that if I had never had a citation in my lifetime that I could call the court, and request defensive driving school then the ticket would be dismissed. I got the ticket in Vestavia Hills, which is a good little drive for me. Would I have to go to driving school down there or am I allowed to go somewhere closer as long as it falls in line with what the courts require? Anyone know how this works? I will never have the opportunity again to get it dismissed so I'm thinking about using this opportunity instead of paying the $185 that I figure it would cost me.

The sheet said I could call, but their website states I have to appear in court on my court date. Anyone familiar with all this? What is driving school like?
Didn't read the whole thread, but I used to work at Homewood Public Library, and they had driving courses almost every single saturday. Give Don Evans (or the current security guard) a call to see when the next one is at 205-332-6610. And since he's an AU fan, give him a nice RTR while you're at it?
