We signed three outstanding players in the early signing period. Are they locked in or can they have a change of heart?

I mean, when they signed Bama was a preseaon top 10 and defending SEC Champion. I'm sure they're watching this collapse more closely than any of us.

LOL. I would be interested in you definition of "outstanding". Good yes. See anyone of those in the top 25? Not even close.

This was a very mediocre recruiting class.

RTRinNC--Opinions differ. I'll leave it at that. Speaking of good laughs though:

I think we need one more big time scorer...and my hope it will be Shelton. He sure had the #'s in HS. And, Ken Winston can score, for sure.

Gonna be a fun season."

The problem that I see with this year's signees, and in general with getting such early commitments, is that our wing players have demonstrated an inabiliity to contribute offensively on any consistent basis. We are in desperate need of offense from the wings, and have no schollies left. When you also see that ED graduates, we could have a really tough year next year. Davidson and Taylor have the potential for being solid inside players at the SEC level, but I wouldn't expect huge contributions from them as incoming freshmen. Atkins is really athletic, but his contributions will likely be as a defender and rebounder.

You would think that CMG would make a hard charge for ANYONE who can shoot. Also there are some rumblings on espn.com that Mo could come out early. He is 1st round material they believe. If he goes next year is gonna be rough. Not that it is going to be a cake walk anyway. We can't win WITH Dudley and Walker, how the @*$! are we going to win without them?

I don't think that Mo is physically mature enough for the NBA. He is getting pushed around by SEC guards. IMO he needs at least one more year of college, and some serious weight room work to develop upper body strength.

User1--Obviously I agree with you. Don't expect an answer from the naysayer since he shows up only irregularly. From his pre-season posts it appears he wanted Bama to recruit North Carolina players (The Tideheels?).

BamaNFla: I am absolutely flattered that you have followed my recruiting posts so closely.

But, ROFLMAO, think we need a scorer or so, You think? You sure have a flash there. Will call Cecil.

Laugh bud.

I wouldn't call this a great recruiting class, but it is a good one. We recruited for needs as we saw them when we signed these three youngsters. No one anticipated the woes we would have at mid season at the two and three positions. As far as comparing classes, last year's, once we got winston was better. Emmit Thomas has been the only bright spot, IMO, among our wings. And Brock and Davis have shown some indication that they could help in the future. To get to great Alabama classes, the most recent one was Dudley, Walker, Grizzard, Meade. Wimp's best one was probably when he signed Bobby Lee Hurt and Ennis Whatley the same year. C. M. Newton signed T.R. Dunn and Ricky Brown the same year, probably his best group.

Joe, not to be argumentive, but, so far, what are the indications that Brock and Davis "could help in the future"? If you mean coming off the bench as a junior or senior, playing 6 - 8 minutes pg., and averaging about 2 points a game, I might agree with you. As of now, neither shows greater potential.

"Help in the future" could be reliable play off the bench. Davis has shown willingness to mix it up and be aggressive in pursuit of rebounds and loose balls. Brock moves well for a 6'9" guy, though at this point he is very skinny, and physically more suited for 3. RTRinNC, I'll make a friendly wager with you: I predict that unless there is a recruiting miracle and we sign Lang, both Brock and Daviswill see much more than 8 minutes per game. Not to disparage our other newcomers, but I don't expect to see them any further along out of high school than Brock and Davis were. These youngsters will really have to grow up fast, or next year could be a miserable one. Come to think of it, this year is starting to feel like a miserable one.

Plus, I believe coaches these days are backing away from the recruits that are blue chippers that come in & play one year & leave the next to the NBA.IMO

TruCrimson: I would be interested in what CBD at UF would say regarding your thoughts...or Tubby at UK. I feel they might disagree. But, who cares; they are only the two best teams in the SEC.

I bet you, that if you take a blue chip kid who is almost positive he is going to the NBA, Coaches will back off from him....example Dejuan Wagner of Memphis year before last...many many schools past him up b/c of that reason, & what did he do, played one year & left, so why waste a scholly on a kid who is going to bail in one year???
And speaking of UK, IMO they do not have an NBA caliper player right now, just a bunch of great great players that are gelling as a team, but no NBA superstar right now, & that is what coaches are leaning to IMO.

Gerald Wallce, & now Lang...which would be a great pickup for us if he stays at least 3yrs. Somebody said in another post, that they did not know why Duke & some other of the Big B'Ball schools were backing off this kid, & probably is the fact that he probably is going to go pro early.

Duke, UNC, and some others did not pass on Lang because of the possibility he might go to the league. They all recruited Lebron James; think he might be good? ACC schools all passed because of lack of potential talent. And, maybe moreover, the fact, even with help, Lang had no chance of being admitted to their universities. Period. Anyone that follows basketball in this area, or nationally, knows that. It's not some news flash.
