Regional Projections

You know, it's hard to believe some of these conferences get automatic invites. Why not have play-in series for six of these (Am East, Ivy, NEC, Summit, Patriot & MAAC) and open up three at-large berths?

Anybody else remember how bad Princeton was when they played here? They couldn't have beaten a decent West Alabama high school team.

I remember that game vs. Princeton at the Joe. It was a bad Princeton team that we beat handly. Anyway, I hope we take the 1st 2 games over Florida this Friday and Saturday because the weather forecast is NOT GOOD at all for Sunday. There is a 70- 80 % chance of T'storms just like we had 2 weeks ago. (Bama did play) I wish these forecasts for rain had a time frame.

It's hard to predict the weather for Bama Baseball. Speaking of RPI. The latest RPI is out and Florida has a RPI of 18 and Bama is 62. I can't figure out why it is so low for the Tide when we beat Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Arkansas 2 out of 3, all of which have higher RPI's. I hope our Non Conference losses to TX San Antonio, Cal Poly and Youngstown St. don't come back and haunt us for a NCAA Regional bid.

I am still shocked that Kentucky has a RPI of 38 when they have a sub .500 record in the SEC. I wish we had 2 wins back from them.

I think you just solved your own dilemma there.

That would be a good plan, but any play-in series among the six weakest conferences has to include both the SWAC and the MEAC, the two that perennially rank at the bottom in conference RPI. I'd swap out the Summit and probably the Patriot from your list for the SWAC and MEAC. The Summit League (formerly the Mid-Continent, which sounded too much like "incontinent") at least has one legitimately decent program in Oral Roberts. The Patriot League is definitely weak, but both Army and Navy tend to be stronger than any of the schools in the other bottom-feeder conferences, aside from maybe Southern in the SWAC.

The play-in tournament would be an excellent idea. In a perfect world, they'd just create a Division I-AA for baseball for all of the cream puff conferences - including the Big Ten. :PDT_nud:

Hard to believe, but for the first time in quite a while, we have a conference loss that is having a negative impact on our RPI standing: Mississippi State is sitting at an embarrassing 126 in the RPI.

Other potentially costly losses:
UAB - 193
UT Arlington - 135 (2)
Tennessee - 87 (2)
South Alabama - 86
Cal Poly - 80 (2)

We didn't lose to Youngstown State. Unfortunately, those three victories over the #242 team in the RPI don't help our cause, either. As fun as it might have been at that time, the blowout win over Division II North Alabama was basically a meaningless waste of time.
