The best food in Ft. Walton is near all of the hotels. I forget which restaurants there are, but I've been to many of them in the past.

If you want really, really good food, just head to Destin and once you pass the bridge, there are several restuarants. If you just want to kick back and enjoy yourself with great finger or plate dinners, appetizers or anything else, just go to AJ's and sit outside upstairs and watch the boats come in and listen to some great music.

You can always to to great restaurants, but AJ's and The Boat House (walking distance apart are both great for having a cold one, kicking back and eating some really tasty treats. The Boat house has the best steamed crab legs!

By the way, there are 1000 great restaurants, but you don't have to go to them when you're visiting...the best places to me are the ones where you can wear a bathing suit, shorts, flip flops or anything else and get a really icy beer and good food.

Thanks for the feedback. Can't wait to go. Sun and surf for 3 whole days and nights. I will be burnt to a turn and head will be throbbing, but no phones, no email, no deadlines.

Roll Tide.

Head East on 98 across the bridge to Destin. The Louisiana Lagniape is very good for fish/steaks. AJ's, as mentioned, is a good choice. Destin Chops is another. One thing about it, there isn't a shortage of places to grub in Destin.

TexasTideFan...why is it that you guys don't have any taste when it comes to food? Lousiana Lagniappe is a decent restaurant but it's a freaking chain restuarant that DOES NOT specialize in the best the gulf has to offer! Everything they do is Cajun inspired and that's not what people want at the beach!

We like fresh seafood with light sauces! While I love cajun food, it's not what I eat at the beach.

Yes, I know I lumped all Texans in together, but after living there for the past 8 years prior to moving back home this past August, I think I have the right to do that. In Texas it's either Mexican or Cajun...for the most part and chain restaurants, while fine...are NOT considered really great food! ESPECIALLY NOT WHEN IT COMES TO SEAFOOD!
