I just saw this on The Experts on EspnU. Trent Richardson stats through the first 2 games of this year vs Mark Ingrams stats thru the 1st two games of last year:
Carries:
Richardson 32
Ingram 36

Rush yards:
Richardson 210
Ingram 206

Catches:
Richardson 9
Ingram 7

Catch yards:
Richardson 92
Ingram 82

I tried to write it all down as fast as I could while it was on the TV screen, so if there is an error in there, I apologize. They did not give the number of TDs thru 2 games for each.
We are truly blessed to have both of them in the same backfield. David Pollack said Richardson was the best running back in the country right now.

keeping in mind that they obviously faced different competition in different years, those are neat numbers to look at.

Right you are. VA Tech in '09 vs SJSU in '10 and Florida International in '09 and Penn State in '10.
Va Tech>SJSU but PSU>FIU. Also, consider the different OLs in the mix.
You could quibble over SOS but it looks to be about even between MI and TR.

I personally think V Tech + FIU versus SJSU + PSU is basically a wash in terms of SOS. If anything would lead me to give the edge to one side as being stronger, I would say SJSU/PSU based on PSUs 17 game streak of not allowing a 100 yard rusher. Mostly, not much difference between the two.

I saw that while I was home for lunch. I believe it said they each had 3 TD's in the first two games.

Agree to a certain extent...but remember that we played VA Tech on a neutral field...while both games this season have been at home...and both were in hand after the first quarter.

This is bad news if you are Duke. :eek2:

This. /\

Not saying this would happen but It's pretty incredible to think that we could play Ingram in the 1st quarter, Richardson in the 2nd, Lacy in the 3rd and Goode in the fourth and I bet considering the wear factor of Ingram and Richardson in the first half against the competition that the second half stats wouldn't drop very much.

I agree...until Ingram returns to the lineup. Then he's the 2nd best RB in the country.

Ditto, Mark not only brings great running talent to the lineup he has Tebow quality inspiration and leadership.

Great to be able to discuss and debate it though. There's about 100 or so other schools who wish they could.

I can't say that myself. Trent can do things Mark and most anybody else cannot. He has a very rare combination of speed and power. On the other hand, Mark just has "it". He has the ability to take over a game, and has as good vision of any college back I've ever seen. They are both so special that I cannot say which is better.

IMHO, Ingram is better in the open field. He has great vision and makes people miss. He also has power when he needs it. He's not as strong as Richardson...but who is? Richardson runs through tackles and over people like a man among boys. But I think Ingram is the more complete back.

what makes me giddy is that someone (one of the coaches i think) was saying mark was looking really good in pre-season. combine that with trent (our section last saturday was literally in awe at how dominant he was) and it definitely gets ugly for the opposition.

against penn state it wasn't so much "missed tackles" as it was people getting run over and drug for 5-10 yards. add ingram into that mix and i really dont see how you prepare for that.

Yep - the wear and tear Ingram and Richardson do on defenses will be even more this year. I suspect in most games we could literally ONLY run the ball the entire game and still win with both MI and TR in there.

I mean, if TR is this good this year, how much better might MI be than last?
