In the case of Heastie...
Whenever you see something like that it is nothing more than a situation to where the recruiting "experts" completely dropped the ball. End of story.
I understand that you will have some movement, but when any kid goes from effectively a five star to effectively a three star all in the course of about eight weeks in the Spring, the "experts" just screwed up.
I don't think it is the end of the story, it may just be the story.
I don't know what to think about the extreme differences between some of the rankings/ratings of Scout.com, Rivals.com, and Scout.Inc. (ESPN,) etc. I have to scratch my head sometimes. It really does seem like it strongly depends on the prospects perceived academic status, granting of interviews, participating in their sponsored camps/combines and especially if the prospect is playing in their sponsored Bowl game.
Since we are already talking about Rivals dropping Heastie out of their Top 100 down to # 225. Heastie for instance is still the # 1 ranked WR and # 10 overall prospect on Scout.com. At the Under Armour/
Scout.com Combine in Baltimore, MD recently, Heastie was reportedly 'off the charts.' Scout.com said that he left no doubt in their minds that he is the # 1 WR in the country. He was timed at 4.34 in the 40 and a 4.29 shuttle. He had a 37.5” vertical and a 9’-5.5” standing broad jump. They said he shined in the one on one drills and it would have taken them getting a DB from the Baltimore Ravens to cover him. lol They think Heastie is the most polished receiver and the nation best wide receiver without a doubt.
In a thread on a Scout.com board (not Bama Mag) there was a discussion about Logan Heastie being dropped so far down the rankings by Rivals.com. They were asking what caused that drastic of a drop. A Scout.com Administrator said "Didn't I hear that Heastie committed to play in the Under Armour game on ESPN instead of the Army game?" Apparently implying that since Rivals.com sponsors the U.S. Army AA Bowl that "sour grapes" could be a contributing factor in the severe ranking drop.
That is why we should all trust CNS and the Bama staff's prospect evaluations and not any one particular recruiting site that may have an agenda. The only stars or ranking that I am really concerned about are the ones assigned by CNS.
The funny thing is that the Scout.com folks talk about how awful and ridiculous the Rivals.com rankings are and vice-versa. Last season the head of Scout.Inc (ESPN) Tom Luginbill publically accused the other recruiting services of having an agenda but not Scout.Inc. lol That is why in recruiting I am a registered Independent that votes for the Bama party.
