Roster Management

I love the Bruner pickup. Curious how the 13 scholarships are allocated.

Definitely have a spot:
Quinerly
Shackelford
Rojas
Bruner
Primo
Ellis
Miles
Rojas
Gary

I fully expect Lewis to go pro and either Petty or Jones to also go pro. I expect the other to return meaning 3 spots are left for:

Davis
Reese
Smith
Hawkins

In this scenario, I'd assume Smith would be the odd man out. If two of our three testing the draft return, maybe Reese? Another factor is what if a player currently on scholarship does not want to leave? As Coach Goff found out, Oats cannot take a scholarship just because he does not want the player. Maybe he could dismiss Reese for his PI charge but, that would be dicey.

I know they won't but, imagine this team if Petty, Lewis and Jones all came back. If they gelled, you could be looking at a team that would be expected to win at least 2 or 3 games in the NCAA tourney.

Hawkins is already gone and you left off Forbes.

I love the Bruner pickup.
First off, kudos to Bamaville and BamaMike for rounding up the recruiting news from the second the season “ended.”

Re Bruner: knew he was ‘Bama-bound since reading this remarkable - for the Ivies - article in the Yale Daily News for going beyond those ivied halls and walls of academe to assess the future of a former Eli athlete not as a future statesman, Supreme Court nominee, Fortune 500 CEO etc., but as a future athlete elsewhere in the college hoops bidness. When Bruner spoke about the Portsmouth NBA showcase having been called off on account of coronavirus, the immediate deduction here was that he could parlay Oats’ system into a season-long showcase at ‘Bama for his NBA advancement.

I expect Herb to come back.

You have Rojas down twice.

Please don’t compare Oats to Goff. Oats deeply cares about his players and will help them find a place to play if they decide to transfer. I will leave it at that. There other factors in Goff’s dismissal.

Thanks for the kind words. Don’t forget to give kudos to imauafan as well. He’s been on it also.

Bruner is the missing piece for this team. The sky is the limit for this group. I hope everyone keeps doubting this group all offseason. I will say that the most disappointing group of fans that I’ve seen, since Bruner committed, is our own. You wouldn’t believe how many of our own fans saying “enjoy the NIT” after he committed.

I’ll never understand our fan base. It’s like our football only fans want our basketball program to fail. I’ll never understand the negativity. Listen, I don’t give a flying fart about tennis, but I hope our tennis team wins every match they play or make fun of the program, which is what our football only fans do.

I get your feeling Mike, but I also know our B-ball fans have lived in the land of disappointment for years and that attitude will only turn around with winning, which I believe is on the near horizon!!!

On a separate note, I don't know why football fans wouldn't want basketball to thrive. It beats me!

Oh yeah, I get the disappointment. I’m there myself. I’m not as old as some of you are, but I am 38, so I’ve lived through plenty of the disappointment. I grew up as much of an Alabama basketball and baseball fan, as I was a football fan. They were all equal to me. Anyway, I’m going off on a tangent, and hi jacking the thread. We can get back on subject.

I am sick and tired of people don't care about anything but football.

Just refreshing this a bit with the noted corrections and some of my own thoughts :

Definitely have a spot:
Quinerly
Shackelford
Ambrose-Hylton
Bruner
Primo
Ellis
Miles
Rojas -- assuming, but have no idea what they've shown before/after injury
Gary -- assuming, but have no idea what they've shown before/after injury

Have a spot if they return (I would also assume CNO wants all back):
Lewis
Petty
Jones

I fully expect Lewis to go pro and either Petty or Jones to also go pro. I expect the other to return meaning 3 spots are left for:

Davis
Reese
Smith
Hawkins

So, room for everyone unless more than one of the draft entrants comes back or CNO finds another recruit he wants to bring in.

I actually think there is a spot for Davis. He is solid enough to come off the bench for 10-15 min a game.

To me the football only fans are not truly Alabama fans. They are Alabama football fans only. If you are true fan of the University of Alabama, you want every sport from Rowing to Football to be the best in the nation.
