Sounds great to me (New Jersey Bama fan since 77) I'm about 1 hour from RU and about 18 hours from Tuscaloosa. Bama @ NC State (Raleigh, NC) in 1996 was the closest game to me since Bama @ Temple in 1988! With 12 games on everyone’s schedule and just about everyone in a conference schools like RU and Bama should sign deals with each other. The Big East conference is not what is used to be and they need to get quality wins in high profile places or, in this case quality losses! RU is on the rise, however they play in a stadium of about 44,000. Notre Dame has just signed a long-term deal with them (4 home 4 away, I think) however RU may have to move 3 of those 4 to Giant’s stadium and split the tickets. This is exactly what Penn State used to do with RU.

Bama’s 07’ non-con. Schedule is Western Carolina, LA Monroe, Houston, and FSU.
RU’s 07’ non-con. Schedule is Buffalo, Navy, Army, Norfolk St., and Maryland.

Temple plays in Philadelphia, plays in the MAC conference and plays in a new stadium.

I think BAMA should look for more opponents in the Northeast. BAMA @ Army in 2008, BAMA @ Temple 2009 and BAMA @ Rutgers in 2010. Why hasn't BAMA played Maryland? Didn't we get a famous coach from there?

Sounds good to me. An easy enough team to beat but gives us enough OOC credibility.
Perhaps, but don't be too sure. Rutgers would have dismantled us last year. Still, I like the thought of a Bama that is once again unafraid to schedule the very best. Rutgers doesn't belong on that list yet, but a few wins over Bama could lift their program significantly...

I believe that the tougher the non-con schedule, the better our chances are of winning the National Championship.
While true, if we can just win all of our games; our conference schedule alone has enough credibility to get us in the Big dance normally.

With that said, I'm all for a much better OOC schedule; mainly because I hate playing teams like Western Carolina and such. You get no points for beating them and a load of crap if you lose...Does HAWAII ring any bells? It should have been a sure win, but instead we got embarrassed because we allowed Hawaii to beat us!

JMO and some of you may not like what I'm about to say but...... We need stay in the "wading pool" for now and leave the non-con. schedule about like it is until we get this program back on track.....A couple of cup cakes and 1 established D1 (i.e. F$U) is how it should be for now. We have been embarrassed repeatedly over the last several years in becoming the "one big win" in a less storied school's history! (Can you say Hawaii', Central Fla., Northern Illinois? etc.) Playing one F$U, UCLA, OK, Penn St. and so forth a year as non-con. is not bad since if you lose.... it was to a traditional power and doesn't hurt BCS chances as bad and if you win...a pretty good feather in your resume' at bowl bid time..... But losing to a Rutgers, Maryland, Boise St. and so forth would have a disasterous impact on a potential BCS season. I think our schedule is where it needs to be for now....Not to mention, we play in the SEC.... Our schedule is bad enough as it is!!!

Wouldn't said loss indicate that we shouldn't actually be in a BCS game? I don't want gifts from the media (not that we are likely to get any). I want to earn our way back to the top. We were pronounced to be "BACK" by SI in 2005. The media was wrong. Let's really get back on top - and teams on top are not afraid of other teams.

If we want to climb that mountain, we can't take the easy slope (it doesn't go all the way to the top) - we have to challenge the sheer face...

NY I agree with what your saying but I think you misinterpereted what I was trying to get across.... A win over "one" F$U or Texas, USC etc coupled with our SEC schedule carries more weight.... Yet a loss doesn't hurt as bad in the big picture....
Rutgers, Boise St etc..... although had great years and kicked the crap out of some top teams.... Before last year, these are cupcakes on our schedule as before.... They will be after thoughts in the next few years.. "flash in the pan". Multiple wins over that caliber team will help but a loss will kill us... yet boost their program. Again we would become "the signature win" for a lesser football program....

Playing this type of team doesn't strengthen our schedule at all....

Rutgers = one hit wonder

By the time we play them, they'll be the same ole Rutgers again. If we're going to play OOC games and they're in the North, go for the big dogs. If not, keep 'em in the south so the fans can travel easier.
