I am drunk on your Kool-Aid too Larry! Its gonna be years before anyone approaches coach Saban's dominance and passing him, probably way after he has long been retired and left the scene. If folks really track the progress at Bama since CNS's arrival, I think they'd be stunned. He got here with barely enough time to land some recruits and, as expected, had a pretty so-so first season. When our team hit the field against Clemson in '08, we weren't even ranked. I remember Herbstreit shrugging the "Idunno shrug" at halftime of that game and saying "WOW! We all were thinking maybe Saban's 3rd or 4th season we'd see some possibility of being a contender, but they may already be there in year 2. I remember having the biggest grin on my face and it didn't leave until the following January. We came roaring onto the football landscape and had an undefeated regular season. Folks from other conferences, especially out west, still give us crap about losing to Utah in the Sugar Bowl, but the fact that we were even in the Sugar Bowl that year was an outright miracle, considering what our program had suffered through prior to Coach Saban's intervention. '09 stands by itself and needs no explanation really. We took care of business every game and ended our Championship run with a big exclamation point by dominating Texas. '10 was a rebuilding year for us but we still did better than most teams out there who have to rebuild after losing so many seniors and talented juniors. Our losses in '10 were hiccups that we might have expected were we not all such avid homers for our team. This past season began and ended with about as much drama as one could expect. New QB, lot of top players gone, yet we won it all. I don't think we really had a close game other than the LSU loss. There was no squeaking by Tennessee by 2 points, or winning at Auburn in the last minute. IMO we made up for that loss by taking it to LSU in the NC game. I have a feeling LSU will be in the doldrums with their program after getting embarrassed like that, in much the same way Bowden/Clemson, Richt/UGA and Meyer/Florida was after dramatic beat downs by us.
All that being said, I think this train in locked onto the track and everyone else is gonna be eating our dust for as long as Coach Saban decides to be here. And I think we'll be viewing the rest of the college football landscape from those "New Heights" mentioned in this thread title. RTR and good night fokes.....

BlackWarrior- nice post, I only disagree with one thing. The 2010 team did underachieve a little bit...too much talent there to lose 3 games- the D took a huge hit but the O shoulda made up for it. Now, it tells you a lot about what Saban and his staff has done to consider a top 10 finish a disappointing season. Unbelievable how far we've come so fast. Roll Tide
I agree 100%! The offense in 2012 will be light years ahead of the 2010 offense! And the defense will not drop off at any position as the 2010 team did. Now who knows how the ball will bounce but as bad as it seemed to bounce wrong for LSU last season they still made it to the championship game unscathed! Counting Bama out for a repeat will only be a mistake if you are stupid! Otherwise its just jealousy!!!
Given the amount of new faces on defense in '10, I fully expected us to drop at least one possibly to LSU. I didn't think we'd lose to Garcia and USCe and I sure as heck didn't think we'd lose to the Barn. So, I guess you're right about us underachieving. I did see that an old tendency for either the coaches to take their foot off the gas or the players letting up after getting a sizable lead really nailed us in the Auburn game. How many times does Coach Saban have to say the word "UTAH" before players start getting it. We did not take Utah seriously and we spent the entire game trying to find the unit or units that got us there. We did the same thing in the second half of the Barn game. I believe that both the coaches and players were at fault in that one. This season I saw the coaches have a lot less tendency to take their foot off the gas. As a result there was only one close game, and we lost that one.
I know some folks may argue with me but I've felt for a while that AJ is a much more natural QB than GMac. His accuracy and his ability to see the field is much better than Greg's. I'm really looking forward to seeing a more mature AJ light 'em up in '12. I think he has an ability to win games when our young DBs have a so-so game here and there. An ability that I only saw a few times with Greg in '09 and that was in the SECCG and the previous week against the Barn.

If Bama keeps winning, I hope our fan base will be graceful winners and not shove it in opposing fans' faces. Too often we've seen that what goes around, comes around. Tennessee being a good case in point. During the latter 1990s and first half of the 2000s Tennessee fans earned every bit of bad karma that's come their way these past few years. I don't want that to be us in the 2020s.
