Wonder if that means Reichard will concentrate on PK?

I lIke Perine and his leg strength. But he has a tendency to kick low. One of these days, one of those is coming back about as fast as it went out.

Edit: Just noticed that Johnson also plays TE. Love the athleticism in a punter. Even though he might not be an FCS prospect at TE, the fact that he plays a position at 7A Oak Mountain High School tells me he has at least a chance of making a play when things don’t go as planned....or when the staff might want to try something unusual.

Alabama has too many kickers on scholly already. I know that you need better play here, but someone has to go.

I wonder how many will be told...nicely but firmly...move on? That list will be trimmed no doubt...
My understanding is the reason Perine didn’t punt in the bowl was to prevent him from playing a 5th game and burning a redshirt year.

My guess is that punting duties will be wide open this spring with Perine being a slight favorite. Unless DeLong finds himself, I imagine he might be visiting the portal.

Yeah, I feel bad for DeLong. His problems are purely mental. He was one of the best punters, if not the single best, in his high school class. So the physical ability is there. Apparently, he performs in practice. Poor guy just can't do it in games.

This is big-time FCS football, and nobody gets playing time out of sympathy. 84 other players depend on him to do his job, and he's had two years worth of chances. So his time in an Alabama football uniform may be at an end.

Kind of like a golfer with the yips, I hope he can get his head straight and find a home. If not, I wish him all the success in life after football.

I think Delong is the only punter on scholarship

He needs to take a year off from school and football, go work 40 hours a week somewhere and see what real life is like. Then the pressure of punting will probably subside. I've found that athletes who cannot perform under pressure are living in too small a fishbowl...they need a larger framework to put everything in perspective.

To be fair, we have no idea what is causing this. Anxiety, for example, is a real thing, and your method described above would not help at all.

That's not going to work. It'll just make it worse for Delong. Honestly, he may be struggling because of expectations at Alabama. He would be better off transferring somewhere where it is not always in spotlight and he would do just fine. Think Anthony Grant... He's killing it with Dayton team.

That makes sense and I was wondering why. To be honest, glad he did not. Bernier did a great job.

Please, pretty please - any analogy but Grant's Roundball Tomb for 'Bama to climb out of! Or maybe to stay on topic you could say Grant "pooch-kicked the bucket" in his leadership of 'Bama basketball...
