A couple of conferences have deals with XM to broadcast games. Does anyone have any ideas why the SEC as a conference or Bama as an individual entity have not pursued such an arrangement?

It would be awfully convenient...

I have Sirius and I absolutely love it.

All the Bama game's, including pre-game and post-game. The best music.

My buddy got XM and all he really regrets it after hearing Sirius.

I wish I would have had Sirius Radio last year because it would have saved me from a very tense and almost violent moment at a deer camp with a Michigan fan who would not relinquish the TV for the Iron Bowl last year.

Is your buddy's name TideFaninVa???? :conf2:

Seriously though, I got XM, and had no idea that Sirrius had the SEC contract. I thought they had pretty much the same programming, and XM was $3/month cheaper at the time. That's what I get for not doing my research. I am contemplating changing to Sirrius. I have to buy all new equipment though. That stinks! At least I can get a prorated refund for the remaining 6 months on my prepaid year of service with XM.

I wonder what I could get for a XM Roady2 receiver with Home Kit????

No, but I'm glad I'm big and kinda intimidating. It took a few choice words before we eventually agreed to flip channels and the whole time I was thinking to myself, damn these Michigan guys are just as hardheaded about football as Bama fans are. What made it really interesting was that it was 4 of them and only 1 of me. My buddies, who are LSU and Aggie alumni, were lauging themselves silly as I proceded to dig myself into a hole I wasn't sure I was going to make it out of. Hence, the purchase of Satalite Radio.

Sirius trying to catch up

Xm has got deals with the Big ten, Pac ten, ACC, PGA tour, Indy car series and Major League Baseball.
I think Sirius didnt think that they could sign a confrence so they did a pre-emptive strike and signed individule schools.
Smart move. They have made it really hard for Xm to sign a deal with the sec now because of the single school contracts.
I have had Xm since it first started and was waiting for them to carry the sec and bama.
Well I was a little disapointed when sirius beat them to it but I'm at the games any way and cant listen to xm or sirius in the stadium( I have a car Xm radio).
It was kind of neat to listen to eli gold and gino toretta call the big 12 championship game last year on Xm.
I got "Xm online" free and I get Sirius free on My "dish".
I like Xm better but the Music is about the same.
Now if Sirius starts to carry Bama Baseball then I might have to pick up a sirius radio because i dont make every baseball game.

Pros and Cons to both XM and Sirius...

...but i chose sirius about a year ago for BAMA football

i obviously watch every game i can, in person or on tv, but some weekends i'm in the far corners of the nation and they don't always show BAMA ballgames, especially if it's a cbs feed

so needless to say, some weekends my sirius radio was the only BAMA feed i could get

definitely worth it for my situation

.

First of all, let's set the record straight...

the SEC DOES NOT have a deal with Sirius! I called the SEC office recently because I was planning on getting Satellite radio and spoke with a guy in their media relations who told me that they are NOT getting involved in a deal (at this time) for the entire conference and that it's being left up to the individual schools. However he did tell me that 9 of the 12 schools have individual deals with Sirius and that he would go in that direction, although they have the ability to change at anytime. It is doubtful they'll change...Sirius is taking over the Satellite radio world and I would expect that the schools will stay with them. I'm getting the Sportster Car/Home version this weekend!

sirius

1 month ago my wife purchased a jeep liberty with sirius radio. i figured: "it can't be that big a deal". how wrong i was ! we love it! last saturday i went and bought the siruis sportster and boom box for the house. (Bama games being on helped the purchase) it even came with a portable antenna and docking station i can take it in my car!
only trouble i've had to this point, it's taken some playing to find the best reception in the house.
check radio shack they were running an instant rebate.

Had XM...

Had XM, but once i gave Sirius a listen on my Dish at home, we dumped XM like a hot rock.

Sirius has better playlists for music, better options for music channels, and is not owned by Clear Channel Communications (A plus for me anyway) XM spent more on marketing and less on decent ctatlogs of music that you actually want to listen to, plus the personalities on the music channels are far more entertaning.

Add to that that BAMA is on Sirius, and it was an easy, easy decision.

Sirius ROCKS!
