I think we did that last year for the last four NC's every game.

Has our uniform changed much at all since the late 60s or early 70s? I do NOT think so.:BigA: :BigA: :BigA: :BigA:
Good point, but we might could go back (way back) and find one that looks a little different for homecoming or something. Just a thought, but keep the names on the jersey every other game.

EDIT: Although we did have those tear-away jerseys for a few years that just barely covered the shoulder pads and let our OL guts hang out everywhere, those would be retro :biggrin2:

The problem with the tear away jersey is that it is not legal. I enjoy the names on the back, because sometimes someone that isn't an everyday guy comes in and the only way, besides paying for a program, to tell is by looking at the back of the jersey.

I think we should go back to old school and take them off. It would be nice to get the one team-one heartbeat back instead of 85 individuals. I have noticed the past 10-12 years that we give too much credit/blame to individuals instead of just saying Bama. I know alot of people will disagree with this post but its just my thoughts.:BigA:
I agree 100%. Take the names off. Also it looks more classy without the names.

please leave the names. if you say that it creates unity, i gotta disagree. it may stand for that, but it is not what the players are thinking. they work hard to have a jersey with their name on the back. don't say that we have won a lot of championships without the names either, cause he have won one with the names.

it has nothing to do with individuality. they are not thinking that because they don't have names on the jerseys they are more "united". the jersey has nothing to do with how you play. i hate how penn state and usc's uniforms are.

I voted No.

I don't dislike the names on them, but if I had to make that decision, I would take them off.

More of a team approach IMO. True hard core fans know the players by number and the rest need to spend the money and help the cuase.

2 Cents.

We did it at my HS for the team thing and as a coach that is why I have done it in the past. If I had a budget as big as Bama's I would still not put my player's names on the back of their jerseys.:

Did you have the team name of the front too?

I understand why you did it, but I think you are in the minority, most high schools that do it, do it because the kids think it looks cool to have a name on the back of the jersey like the big boys do in college and the pros, and because it costs a fortune to replace jerseys year after year for most high schools, they go with the team name instead of the players name.

Tennessee St. University had "TIGERS" on the back of their jerseys this year and it just looked "bush league"...

I really, really don't understand this debate -

How does a name on the back of the jersey make an individual not focus on the team? Seriously, what happens where he doesn't play for the team? - Somebody tell me. If anything, he plays harder because everyone knows who he is.

Why not take the numbers off as well. Players have more affection for a certain number than they do for their name on the back of the jersey.

We have done it both ways.

I prefer the school name on the front, ala Oklahoma. School name on the road, mascot/nickname at home. I have seen front and back at same time, but have not done it that way.

I know some HS teams that sew a strip on the back of the jersey each year with the player's name on it. When the player graduates they give him his name strip. That is pretty cheap, huh.

To ALL those that think player names should be there: we just have to agree to disagree. All I know is that they have never been on a jersey that I had anything to say about and good Lord willing never will be. Nothing you can say to change my mind on this issue.

That being said, Alabama will probably have the player's names on their jerseys this year. Saban had them there at LSU (probably MSU too) and we know he had them with the Dolphins (I think it is an NFL rule). But, I'll tell you this; if Saban calls and ask my opinion, I WILL say "NO" to player's names. LOL:biggrin2: ;)

Why are the names on the back so important? Is it that hard to remember our players numbers? By not having the names it sends a signal to our opponents and opposing fans that our team plays as one. I love the idea of no names and shows us for one of the traditional powers we are like Notre Dame, USC, OU, or PSU.

I think the no names this is strictly a symbol. It has NOTHING to do with how the players are going to play or how they see themselves. If you wanna say it means they are ONE team instead of an individual fine but its just gonna be you saying it because it doesn't change the way they see it. Now on to the throwback jersey thing. How about those we had WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY back that were striped?? It would be sweet to do some of those for like a dedication game. Those are the only ones that I could remember that looked really different.

I know that as a child I used to dream of seeing my last name on the back of that jersey. The guys who wear that Crimson Jersey have paid and are currently paying a high price to wear it. They should have their names on the back of it.
My thoughts exactly. At my high school our coach would make getting your name on the back of your jersey an incentive for coming to a certain number of summer workouts. If you got so many workouts you would get your name on the away jersey and if you got even more then you would get it on both jerseys. I wanted mine on there so I always went to the workouts and got it on both of mine.

the idea that taking names off discourages individuality is bunk. Numbers do the same thing. There's no difference in JPW having "Wilson" on the back of his jersey vs. having "14" on it. Both of them mean "John Parker Wilson". If you wanted true "team" and no "individuality", then no one would have numbers, or they'd all have the same number. Yes, I know the numbers are supposed to represent what the position the player plays, but it still represents a particular player, as well.
