I hear the MDB alumni band will play vs the USC game. Do you think the alum band sets the stage for the homefield advantage? Would you rather hear the MDB? or does it matter?

I think the alumni band should play on the quad or in PRE-pre game on the field (first 30 minutes the gates open), but not take from the regular pagentry of the SEC game experience. Just my opinion. (I feel the same way about Homecoming festivities.) I'd rather they play, if necessary, at a non-SEC game. I must say, however, the alum band was not bad at all last year--just doesn't show all Bama has before a fellow SEC school that has great fanfare. I'd like to show more for SEC games. Too much at stake.

I must say I am surprised at the decision to take the alumni band out of the Homecoming festivities since Homecoming is meant for the alumni. But considering the time and energy we put forth at practice and games I think we deserve to be there, regardless of what game it is. I understand how you feel AG, and I know I'm biased, but give the alumni band some props instead of knocking us down!

As a member of MDB, I haven't heard anything about this yet, so it's kind of surprising.

One thing to keep in mind, is that South Carolina probably won't bring their full band to Tuscaloosa. If they don't, that leaves ample time for the Alumni Band to perform and for a normal MDB show. If SC brings any type of band at all, it will probably be a pep band, like we're sending to the Arkansas game.

The MDB Alumni Band...

Last year, the alumni band moved their performance to the No Ilinois game to accommodate the Sudler Trophy Award (kind of like the National Championship for a band's history of exceptional performances). Anyway, a number of alumni liked the idea of getting together on a game day other than Homecoming so that they could take part in other festivities, like the School of Law breakfast, the CBA's stuff, etc. That just couldn't be done if you had to practice in the morning, attend a short board meeting, and then go to a game. That's why they will not be performing at Homecoming (USM) this year. I don't know if this will be a permanent change or not.

If USC doesn't bring a full band, I would look for the MDB to put on a full or abbreviated performance.

Actually you need to get your story straight!! I am a Crimsonette Alumni and the itinerary states that we will play Yea Alabama alone and then exit the field. The band will then come onto the field, do Homecoming Queen festivities and then the alumni will rejoin them for the Alma Mater and Yea Alabama to exit the field and finish up halftime!! Next time you wanna bash the Alumni, you may wanna think about who may be reading your posts! I am totally offended that you would think that any member of the alumni band would want to steal a halftime show from the current band!! Remember, we've been in their shoes. You just showed your true colors. Disappointed that we have such shallow fans!!

Considering the age of the original post, I have no idea whether this is still an issue or not. But in case it is, here's my two cents...

Fer cryin' out loud, this is HOMECOMING!! It's focused toward the alums. If past members of the MDB are willing to participate in halftime activities, I applaud 'em 100 percent, appreciate their involvement, and encourage their participation!

End of rant.
