Should we pull for LSU to win NC?

First let me start with !Roll Tide Roll! Born a Bama fan will live my life as a Bama fan and will die as a Bama fan!! All others in the SEC are just a means to an end. If LSU wins the SEC and goes to the NC game but Oregon blows them out it will only serve the people that say that the SEC is overrated. Where as if LSU goes in and demolishes whoever they play then that backs up the people who say that we play in the toughest conferance (which we do). I pull for Alabama always but I want every SEC team that goes to a bowl game to win and win big.

Even Auburn and Tennessee? You said you're a Bama fan right? I'm j/k with ya.

Hate is complete waste of time and energy!

Bama fans hate Fulmer.

LSU fans hate Saban.

Bama fans hate Auburn fans.

UF fans hate everybody.

Ad infinitum ...

Make an effort to rise above it. Show your fellow SEC fan that you can act with class. Fulmer showed his hate for Bama and look where it's gotten him lately. He let it consume him to the detriment of his team. Do you think Coach Saban, or his coaches, or our players waste their time hating our rivals in the SEC. I certainly hope NOT! If you have an allegiance to Oregon, or Kansas, or OU then that's great. Root for them, that's healthy. But don't root for them just because you want to feed your hate for LSU.

Rise above it!

Personally, it's not a hate thing, it's a "how will this affect Bama in the long run?" thing. Long story short, a LSU national championship makes them even more appealing.

Well said ... and whereas in the recent past we have (unfortunately) not been recruiting head to head against LSU for too many players, that has now changed with Saban at the helm. We'll be fishing in the exact same pond from now on.

Nope...respect their program and what they have accomplished this year, but will not be pulling for them...I may have to just boycott watching the SECCG this year...so I don't have to root for anyone..ha!:rolleye2:

That's true. Coach Saban developed alot of friendships with several coaching staffs in LA and you know that he will be going head to head with LSU in Louisiana. We are in a pretty good tug of war right now with LSU on a TE out of Monroe. We also seem to be competing against them on a regular basis in the Mobile area. LSU winning a NC only gives them more exposure.

You made me laugh with that one ... even though Bama 13-0 has a point about the hate stuff.

I almost always pull against our SEC rivals ... mainly because of the recruiting factor. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one questioning the "gotta root for the SEC" mantra.

While there are scenarios in which conference strength might help us if we end up as one of three undefeated teams (for instance), we are much more likely to get to that position if our conference rivals are down.

Ask LSU. Would having an elite, powerful Bama to recruit and play against over the past five years have helped them or hurt them? Sure it would have made the conference better, but LSU might well be sitting there without a national title. And they very likely would not be in position to play for the title this year either.

I agree.

Well put. Being a Bama fan makes it hard for me to pull for anybody else that will annually impact Bama's success!

I despise Tenn and Allbarn. I think UGA fans are some of the worst inbred classless loudmouths in America. UF is so full of themselves that it makes me vomit. However, I still want every single one of them to win their bowl games. I want the SEC to be acknowledged as the best conference in the nation and the only way we do that is by beating the crap out of every non-conf opponent we face. The alternative is to listen to everyone on espn continue their lovefest with the big 10.5, big 12 and PAC-10.

Yes, and throughout the southeast we will now be targetting the same elite prospects LSU, Florida, etc., have been pulling all these years while we muddled around in mediocrity, hoping to occasionally snipe a four-star from the big boys.

That's all changed now ... and LSU and Florida winning national championships, while it could one day help us indirectly, hurts us directly on the recruiting front.

I don't mind too much rooting for Georgia, since their success directly impacts Auburn more than us. :) But even with them, if Richt got them to national championship level, it would hurt us more than it would help us.

Back on topic....

Rooting for LSU in the NC game will be futile if they continue to rack up the penalties. Throw in the fact that Miles gambling luck could run out and LSU could be in a predicament.

And I won't root for them under any circumstance. But if they win, you can bet that I'll tell all the Big-10(11), Pac-10, etc. fans at work how awesome our conference is...

If Ohio State was in the running and it looks like LSU vs Ohio State I'd probably been more entertained watching LSU win.

Oklahoma will be my favorite if they can make it.

Bitter much? Sounds like the SEC fans can't figure out why they can't beat “Les the Moron”.
Miles has the second best record in college football since 2005 (the year he started @ LSU). Miles has a winning record against Meyer (hell, made him cry), Spurrier, Fulmer, Tubby, Saban, and Beamer -- yet Miles is a complete idiot who can't keep his hat on straight.
Before Miles, has any coach ever beaten Auburn, Bama, and Florida in the same season (with an excellent chance to add Tenn or UGA to the list)? Certainly not Saban. Saban couldn't even beat Bama and UF in the same season - - and Zook and Shula were the coaches for those teams.
LSU had only one scholarship QB on its roster against 'Bama because of suspending Ryan P for a fight w/ bouncers. Miles did the right thing and told his star player to stay home.
Can't say the same for Urban Legend Creyer Meyer, who has faced a discipline issue the week before the past 2 games against LSU. What did Meyer do? He didn't sit out safety Joiner in 2007, who had been arrested for breaking into the impound lot. In 2006, he didn't sit out his stud DT, who tested positive again for pot just before the game. You tell me which coach has more character. Guess Miles is just a moron.
As for the Gumps' comments about Miles being out coached, well, that's one way to look at it. The other is the Saban couldn't coach his top 20 team to a win despite LSU's going on the road and giving up three turnovers, a punt return allowed for a TD, and 130 yards in penalties. Saban had the better QB, the most productive WR in the SEC, and Alabama got SIX first downs thanks to penalties on LSU. Despite all of that, Bama couldn't get the victory in its own back yard. LSU brought its "D-minus"game, gave Bama every chance, and yet Saban couldn't coach his team to a victory. So who's the better coach?
When the game was on the line, the Defensive Genius went into prevent D, and gave up the win. When the game was on the line, the “Moron Mad Hatter” attacked Sarah Jessica Parker w/ blitzes, ultimately causing a sack and a fumble. Who won that coaching battle?
Saban's team gave up 2 TDs in the final 3 minutes. Miles scored 40 + points on the Defensive Guru in his own house!
Bama paid about $333,333 to Saban for this coaching performance. You think they got their money's worth?
As to references about the players Saban left at LSU for Miles, well Saban was 25-10 in his last 35 games at LSU. Miles is 30-5 thru the same number of games (against a harder schedule, not to mention Katrina). Guess Miles is coaching "Saban's recruits" better than Saban coached "Saban's recruits". Wonder if LSU can work out a deal to get Saban to recruit and Les to coach'em.
The whole "Saban's recruits" is just silly. You think Doucet or Dorsey would have gone to any school other than LSU? Saban's gets credit for brining in only a couple of those kids - - Jackson and Highsmith. Basically, the rest of "Saban's recruits" are LA kids that grew up in the shadow of Tiger Stadium. That's like high fiving yourself for having sex w/ your wife. You're suppose to get those kids.
I won't even go into how stupid it is that the whole premise of the argument is that all you have to do is recruit the kids, and that practice and game day coaching has no part in winning. Texas and USC have as much, if not more talent than LSU, but where are they right now? Are they in the top 5? Have they beaten 6 ranked teams this year (LSU has)? No on all accounts. Hmmmmmmmm. Remind me again whose player Meyer won w/ last year? Were those Meyer's or Zook's recruits? How is Meyer doing this year w/ a few less Zook recruits? Congrats on UF finally getting bowl eligible. Enjoy the Music City Bowl.

Dang dude, you should be kissing Coach Saban's feet for finally making LSU football relevant again because it sure wasn't going anywhere until he got there. Your bitterness is off the charts, guess it comes from all those years of BAMA coming down to the bayou and administering all those arse whippings on y'all. Enjoy it while you can, I have a feeling it not gonna last all that long.

As to who's the better coach. That's easy to determine......Just check their fingers to see which one is wearing championship rings. :p_razz::p_green::p_razz:

First they have to get there and that won't be easy for a team that lacks discipline. Personally I won't pull for them IF they make it that far. I hope Kansas, Oregon or Missouri gets there. It would be nice to see new names in the title game.

Amen. I have never understood why I should root for my most hated rivals just because we are in the same conference. The fact is that the SEC is and always will be a big time conference, and 99/100 times an undefeated SEC team will play for the NC. The fact that the one time was Auburn is just more proof if you needed it that there is a God.

:biggrin:BamainBoston:biggrin: you've just earned my vote for Post of the Day!

dvldog always makes me laugh, but today your post has me rolling on the floor! I love this forum!

P.S. I didn't need any proof, but just in case I start to slip, I'll think about this! THANK YOU!

Roll Tide!:BigA:

Guys, I think it all depends on the year. I remember individual years where I pulled for Auburn, Alabama, etc. and then some years when I flat our didn't. I would think if this year's Bama-LSU game weren't so heated, it would be an easier decision. Or, if LSU would have won huge, then Bama may feel like VT fans. Almost all VT fans are pulling for LSU.

To sum it up, I think it goes year to year. I would pull for MS State and Kentucky this year. I don't think I would say that all the time, though.

Almost all VT fans are pulling for LSU.

Let's be honest: VT fans as a rule aren't the brightest people. I mean, they are VT fans. They cheer for guys like Michael and Marcus Vick.

I don't care if a team beats Bama or not. Last year UF beat us and I cheered for them in the title game. It just depends on the team playing and who they're playing. I just can't root for LSU, I don't care who they play (unless it's osu).

Some teams I can root for and some I can't. I can't root for LSU like I can't root for USC or osu.
