ADMIN NOTE: Site updates / privacy policy & terms of service agreement [Monday 10/21/25 2pm CDT Update!]

You may see this in the notice above but I wanted to also make a thread ...

We are working on updating the site servers and software. As part of this process (we're not on the new software... yet), we're also 'forcing' everyone to read / agree to our site privacy policy and terms of service. There are no significant changes to either of these but the terms page does clarify a few things that are mostly in the legalese.

You can just click the checkbox for both and continue using the site as usual! We'll update you more on the site upgrades VERY soon!

You can also dismiss the notice by clicking on the X in the notice.

THANK YOU AS ALWAYS for supporting the site and being an active participant!

10/21/25 @ 2:00pm UPDATE : WE BACK!
I'll summarize a couple of the more noticeable changes and then cover everything more in detail later tonight when I have a bit more time.

You'll notice a few things immediately:
  • REPORT PROBLEMS: If you see something specific that's not right, post it in the Troubleshooting board and I'll check it out. Screenshots and good descriptions will help me! Please make each report be its own thread (don't reply to anybody else's with a different report!)
  • DARK MODE! We now have a dark mode! scroll to the bottom of the page and you can choose TideFans or TideFans Dark as your mode. TideFans is the normal mode. We haven't optimized everything yet for Dark Mode so some things may appear less than perfect.
  • EDITOR: the editor when you post has changed somewhat. You may have to play around with it to get it to do what you want. A small few of the editor features aren't there any longer but I think it's about 95% the same, just formatted differently. If you see something you're missing, post it in the troubleshooting forum.
  • Other things are new and I'll cover those later, but these two are the main ones!

Just wanted to ttt this - and note that we may put the forum in maintenance mode while the updates are applied to the "production" servers (most likely later today / tomorrow). If you see that, don't worry, we'll be back shortly (most likely an hour or two but could be shorter/longer)

THANKS AGAIN FOR SUPPORTING TIDEFANS AND THOSE WHO SUPPORT US!

UPDATE 10/18:
On Monday morning, 10/20, you may see a "site undergoing maintenance" page when you try to access the forums. The server may also be offline for a few minutes, as well (hopefully not).

So, we're almost there! We're gonna stomp a mudhole in the viles today and next week have an updated site! I love the 3rd weekend in October ! :)

RTR! We'll be putting the forums into maintenance mode around 930am CDT today.

There is a possibility that this will be delayed until Tuesday or Wednesday, as well, but I'll let you know ASAP. Just the way it is in trying to coordinate all the moving parts!

Not exactly sure how long this will take. The site may also go offline for a brief period as part of the server update (not sure yet).

Anyway, thanks for your patience! If you see the maintenance message and forums are unavailable, just keep checking back every 30 minutes or so. Please do not continuously press browser refresh :)

Once the update is complete, I'll do a QA on everything and then make a post that we're back :) At that point, if you see something amiss that I haven't already noted, let me know in the Troubleshooting forum so the FB forum doesn't become cluttered!

As always, thank you and thanks to our admins and mods for the yeoman's work of maintaining the culture of TideFans! Also big shoutout to those who support the site - please give them your support in return!

Tuesday 10/21/25 10:15am CDT Update

Whew! Long 24 hours. Lots of backend problems resolved. We're still not 100% but maybe up to 72.3% as of right now! We're alive.

I'll detail some of the issues later but the main one we're having right now is some 503 errors. We're still doing some maintenance to try and resolve this before making the forums active. Thanks for your patience.

You'll also notice some weird characters. We'll manually fix some of these - especially on buttons and links, but they may remain in any thread that has them posted before today. It's how the updated db is interpreting apostrophes and quotes. If you see one in your own post or thread or signature you can fix it yourself, if you want.

We'll get it all figured out but it may take a day or two to get to everything.

I expect we'll turn the forum back on soon.

    • KNOWN ISSUES that we'll get fixed ASAP
      • Likes button / reactions : Only "LIKE" is available and you get a confirm screen after clicking it.
      • Weird characters: some posts have weird characters where apostrophes, quotes, ellipses, etc. are. You can/should edit your own post/thread if you see them to clean it up. New threads / posts should show the correct character.
      • Insert Image: the Insert Image button may not insert the image or the image may not show up when you post.
      • Go to page: may not work.

Hey @Ledsteplin - I edited the post and reposted your link and looks like it posted. and I posted it again just to make sure. The formatting is a bit different (lighter background) but the "unfurling" (which is what it is called when you post a link and it formats it) works.

what was the issue with the new thread not working well?

I tried to post an image in a thread. It didn't work. Showed it on a new page, with no way out. I had to swipe the forum out of multitasking. Then open it up again.

Ok thanks for the details. I'll check on it and see what's up.

I clicked on the image inserter on the editor bar, selected the image from my drive, and it posted.

the logo above I copied and pasted.

Both worked. So, if you've got a screenshot or something that shows what you're seeing, please post it in the troubleshooting board with description. Thanks!


EDIT: Well, the attachment isn't working as expected (even though wysiwig it showed up). I'll investigate more.
