So, amidst all the trash talk How do you feel about "Sweet Caroline?"

Can't stand it. "Dixieland Delight" is just as bad, because of the line "Tennessee Saturday night." If you want to play Alabama, fine, play "My Home's in Alabama." Not my favorite song by them ("I'm In A Hurry" is my fave, but it doesn't fit a football game), but we have some tradition with that song. Alabama played Bama Jam one year and Coach Bryant was in attendance. They changed the lyric that night to "My Home's AT Alabama," and got Bryant up on stage with them. They got him to tear up at the rendition.

"Sweet Home Alabama" is fine, too. That's a UA tradition. "Sweet Caroline" is a straight rip-off from the Red Sox. I guess they're looking for anything that gets the student section singing, but "Sweet Caroline" is cheesy beyond belief and "Dixieland Delight," in addition to having the Tennessee line in it, just gives the students the chance to sing about beer. Yeah, they're going to drink anyway, but do they have to sing about it thanks to music the university sanctions?

I like our gameday management overall, but when those two songs come on, I want to start cutting speaker wires.

I don't like it because they do it at the wrong time. By that I mean it's a situation where we need our crowd all fired up to make noise, but they go to a TV timeout or whatever and crank this song up. When it's done, the crowd is in a mellow mood for some reason, and they quiet down. I've seen it happen. Why not play songs that keep the crowd up instead of calming them down?

Yes, really. If I knew how to post pictures I could post multiple Lynyrd Skynyrd album covers with rebel flags on them. It's just funny to see someone say "Dixie land delight" is kind of redneck, but "Sweet Home Alabama" is not.

I'm well aware of the album artwork, but that wasn't in question. A song was. I guess one can find perceived "bigotry" anywhere one wishes to look. I just choose not to play that game.

They should play this instead. The song always gets me pumped.

LOVE IT!!!!!!

The music is awesome, the lyrics are spot on!

Let's get it on!
It's time to get in the game,
You gotta fight 'til it hurts and then you do it again
Let's tear it up!
I'm staying straight to the core, ain't no room for second place, go big or go home!

Rise!
It's dog eat dog
Rise!
Man versus beast
Rise!
The strong will survive
Rise!
I've got no time for the weak

It's time to rise up, man up, get back up, never been and won't be broken
Dust off and then come back for more
You've gotta reach down, dig deep, and break ground,
Show them all you won't be beaten
Brush it off and then come back for more!
Come back for more

It's do or die!
Time to settle the score, gotta give it all you got and then you give it some more
There will be blood
You've gotta fight 'til you break, talk a lot of trash and step up to the plate

Rise!
Refuse to give in
Rise!
Ashes to dust
Rise!
Make 'em remember your name
Rise!
'cause in yourself you can trust

It's time to rise up, man up, get back up, never been and won't be broken
Dust off and then come back for more
You've gotta reach down, dig deep, and break ground,
Show them all you won't be beaten
Brush it off and then come back for more!
Come back for more

Rah!

It's time to rise up, man up, get back up, never been and won't be broken
Dust off and then come back for more
You've gotta reach down, dig deep, and break ground,
Show them all you won't be beaten
Brush it off and then come back for more
Come back for more

Rah!

LOL! Are you sure? My point, before you turned it into something to do with bigotry and race, was that its funny to call one of those songs redneck and not the other. Dixie Land Delight and the image it conjures up of a good ole boy and his girl riding through the countryside of Tennessee in his pickup truck is no more redneck than the Skynyrd image of unshaven, long haired southern boys wearing t-shirts with rebel flags and carrying wallets with chains. Race was the furtherest thing from my mind.

Come on Riz, I've posted here a long time. Have you ever known me to play the race games?

The post I originally responded to just reminded me of how funny I find it when people from Tennessee say people from Kentucky are hillbilly trash. Both are hillbilly trash as far as I can see.

I love all things Neil Diamond. But, who really cares what's played at a football game anyway? :)

The main thing is the tunes are dance worthy enough for the cute sideline cheerleaders/dancers/majorettes from both teams in their little outfits to shake some booty! Thats all!

I don't like the song period so to play it at the stadium grates on me even more. People talk about people getting too quiet during the game..................well quit playing snoozer songs.

When did this start? I don't remember it at LSU last year. I was at PSU, and thought it was a perfect soft song for a soft team.

It was played at the LSU game game last November... When I heard it I asked my friend next to me "really???, this is some red sox trash... since when do we stoop lower than AU to Red Sox traditions????..." Sweet Caroline should be left to the trash that hangs out at Fenway Park

My son's high school team has played Sweet Caroline at a couple of home games this year. The crowd was bewildered, old people were chuckling, cheerleaders dancing to it, the whole thing was bazaar.

Fortunately they ditched it and didn't play it at last nights game.
