My friend and I will be in Chicago on Sept 3rd and we are hoping the UA/Middle Tenn will be on ESPN gameplan or on pay per view. Does anyone know of any sports bars that will be showing the game? Or any places where Bama fans meet to watch the games? Any info would be much appreciated.

I don't know if they'll be showing the game, but you may want to check out Casey Moran's accross from Wrigley Field. Even if they're not showing the game, there should still be some good eye candy!

The Cubbies have a game at Pitt at 11:35 am that day, so they will prob be showing football of some sort in the evening.

There is a sports bar on Division almost at the intersection of Rush (the big bar district), can't think of name right now, and there is an ESPN Zone also, you might call and check those two places, meanwhile I'll try to think of someplace else.

I live in Chicago and the place to be is Joe's off of North Ave. They have 50 big screen tv's scattered throughout the bar. (it's really really big) and different groups of fans around different tv's. There were lots of Bama, Auburn, LSU fans there last year when I went to watch a couple. Great place to watch Game Plan.

Thanks for the info. I have heard of Joe's. I wonder if they will be showing the game if it isn't on ESPN gameplan? I was hoping it would be added but I just checked and it isn't added so far. I wonder if the bar can get it on some other sort of pay per view?

Years Ago, the Cubby Bear Was Good

Watched the 1991 Alabama - LSU game there. With a good LSU fan, no less (oxymoron, I know, but he really was a good guy).

Cat-a-corner from Wrigley Field's main entrance. That famous shot of the lighted marquee has to be taken from the front door of the Cubby Bear.

Don't know if it's still there, but it was great in 1991.

Update: Did a Google on it, and it's still there. Take the EL's Red line to Addison. Cubby Bear is in the 700 block of Addison.

Cubby Bear is in fact still there and going strong. The Cubs however have a homegame that do so the place will be overrun with baseball fans and might not be enjoyable for watching a football game. The Cubs game is a day game and the football game is at night so that might would help, but probably not a lot on a saturday night.

I will chime in and say Joe's is a fun place to watch a game. Best game food on the menu is the roast beef sandwich or pizza ( hard to screw up pizza). Beer menu is a little thin but cold and wet. :D

I think Joe's was the one I went to last year. Is it the one in the warehouse area, and is a converted warehouse with the upstairs bar?

That place is HUGE, the front room is for the 'game of the day' and each booth has its own TV. They have an outside patio area with several TV's, a stage area for bands, with TV's scattered all around the wall, and the upstairs room with the projector screen.

They usually divide the games up in each room. Get there early if it is on gameplan, because I doubt Bama will have their own room for a small game like MTSU.

If the place I am thinking of is indeed Joes, then that is your best bet. I've never seen a better sports bar in all my travels.

Thanks for all the good suggestions. Sounds like Joe's has the majority vote! We'll have to check the place out. I REALLY would like to see this game and see how the team looks. I had high hopes that it would be added to the ESPN gameplan because it would be easy to find a place showing the gameplan games, but so far it hasn't been added. Maybe they will add it this week.

Just a note

As I understand it, the Bama/MTSU game will be at night. If so, just take the El train that you would take to get to Wrigleyville or to Joes on Weed a few stops north earlier in the day to "Central" street and feel free to attend the Northwestern Wildcats game. Ryan field is a great place to watch college football and its just 30 minutes from downtown Chicago (approximately). Also - Free Beer is provided by the NU athletic department (you get two with each ticket before the game)!

Dont worry about tickets, we rarely sell out and no way we sell out our comfy little place for this game. Personally I would buy the cheapest tickets you can get (I think end zone ticks are 10 bucks or so, not sure, though) and then just sit wherever you want a few minutes after kickoff. No-one really monitors where you sit and stuff like that when the stadium has a lof of available seats.

This is actually an interesting matchup. We (I say "we" being a NU fan) are playing Ohio with their new coach.....former Nebraska coach Frank Solich. Northwestern played Nebraska and Solich ran up the score against us (including a fourth quarter flea flicker when they were already up by 28 or so) so this game might get interesting.....can you say....."payback"???

Anyway, it might be a way to kill some time during the day and see a stadium you otherwise might never see. Kickoff is at 11 am leaving you plenty of time to get to an establishement with the Bama game on TV.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions and I'll be happy to help you out.

Thanks for all the info everyone. It was just posted on rolltide.com that the game would be on ESPN gameplan so it won't be a problem to find a place showing the game. Does anyone know if any Alabama fans are meeting at Joe's?

Eurocat, thanks for the suggestion. I'll talk to my friend and see if he wants to catch the NU game earlier that day.
