Well, regarding the $4 hot dogs, they are almost exactly the same dogs that have been served at BDS (and Legion Field) for years. The only difference after the price increase? Less fixings than ever before. Otherwise, they are pretty much the same dogs. Of course, I didn't try the longer dogs. And by the way, regarding the kraut/ketchup/mustard mixture...it's been served on Bama dogs for well over 20 years...it's a Bama dog staple.
The hot dogs are the same mechanically separated chicken, with a little added nitrate and a pinch less gluten to justify the price. Less mixture would expose these suckers, so that's not going to happen.

Re: Five Guys, Dreamland in Stadium?

The jumbo Hebrew Natioanls are great to eat. I have grown attached to Thumans dogs, Costco sells them in a 5 pound sack during the summer. They come linked together and you have to cut the strings off, but it is worth it. Those dogs have a nice crisp taste when cooked on a grill. I have even had them deep fried, they are even better.

in the south, everything is better deep fried!!!!

I totally agree.
They finally had something for the Bama fans that cannot afford, or get, tickets to get together and root for the Tide.
I knew when they moved it off the Quad, the rich people were upset at having to manuver through the poor masses.
Personally, I'm not rich and I didn't have a problem with walking through the masses. I was a big advocate for setting up a big screen where folks that couldn't get into the stadium could still enjoy the experience by watching on campus. However, as one already mentioned, following the UGA game last year, the southwest corner of the Quad was totally trashed. That next morning I drove by after breakfast at the Waysider and it looked like Bourbon Street on the morning of Ash Wednesday! The piles of bottles, cans, cups and assorted other trash was ridiculous. Clearly, the "poor masses" were never schooled in how to appreciate their surroundings and how to clean up after themselves.

Yeah, the larger population on the Quad resulted in more trash. But I must note that the UGA fans in my tailgating area of the Quad (not around the big screen) were particularly trashy...they left garbage EVERYWHERE.

There are so many excellent food choices on and around campus that I won't be needing to pay 20$ for concession food anymore. I will eat before or after the game. I'm kind of making a personal stand... UA will not be getting any more of my money unless I absolutely can't avoid it.

I got out and explored a little and ended up going to the Ezell's under upper NEZ. For $7, I got a shrimp po-boy. The shrimp was very good but the bread was dry. They offered me some tartar or cocktail sauce but I don't like that stuff on a sandwich.

However, I think it was a good deal because I literally had shrimp falling out of the sandwich. I've gotten fewer shrimp in my entree at Olive Garden before.

The Coke mixture was correct and of course was much better than Pepsi. But $4 and $6 for drinks are ridiculous prices at a college football game. Vendors were also selling standard plastic-bottle Cokes for $4.50 in the aisles. I heard several people saying they were going to start hiding canned drinks in their bags, buying one $6 drink for the whole family and then pour their own after the original drink ran out. I realize the bid process meant prices were going to go up but this was not what UA needed to do. The souvenir cups looked expensive, and I'd much rather buy cheap cups if it means the prices would be more reasonable. No one should ever get charged more than $2.50 for a soda of any kind, I don't care how big the cup is.

As for the Five Guys question, I think that might have been a rumor that didn't come to pass. They weren't mentioned in the press release materials I got a few weeks back. If someone found one in operation, I'd like to hear it.

I'm in the west stands section L. All we had below us was Dreamland pulled pork and chicken and nachos. Don't know where the dogs and popcorn was. Anyody notice not as many verdors up in the stands selling? Never saw a 'dog or popcorn up in the stands. Some bottled softdrinks and peanuts and that was about it.

Just wait until someone kicks over and dies of dehydration in the 4th quarter because he or she didn't have the $4 for water because they spent it all in the 1st on 2 cokes and 2 hot dogs. Can't remember but is their water fountains inside the stadium?

I remember back in 92 when I was the manager at the university Pizza Hut while going to school. We vended the games and sold Pizza slices, big ones at that, for $2 a pop. Basketball games too. Glad those days are over because I had to stay up all night making up a few hundred pizza's, then work at the game. But we at least had a TV in the booth.

If you are a student, I would not recommend becoming a manager of a fast food joint. Your life will be heck.

Re: Stadium Food Prices

All I know, is during halftime and most of the 2nd half, the concesssion sstands in my section was dead. It was funny looking at the cones in front for lanes of traffic and there was no traffic. BTW, For $4.oo, there was on the menu "Cheese Cup". Was that just melted cheese in a cup. All I know is that after the game, my brother got King Size Combo meal at Burger King for $6.50 and that was the same price as a Souvenir Cup. I bet those prices will be dropping real soon.
The cup of cheese is $1. And you'd bet wrong about dropping the prices. Concessions took in more money than any game before.

I paid $16 for a Coke, hot dog and pretzel before the game. Ridiculous, and I won't be going into the stadium hungry again.
Bottom line ... we all have options, and eating inside BD is but one of them.
And by the way ... $4 for a bottled water?!?!?! :conf2:
So you got the foot long?

yeah, I know...$8.00, too...thought it'd be one of those big ol' pork BBQ nacho platters like they have at ol' Miss (for $6.50, btw) that are just amazing...

But, alas...
They're $7. Still too expensive for what they're serving.

They had dreamland in the student section. Most everything has jumped in price. $4 stadium dogs, a new $6 bama? dog, and all the dreamland is pretty pricey. I expected the better food to be more expensive; I just wish they actually put more BBQ on the nachos.
Some stands loaded up the nachos with meat. Others did not. I think a lot of it had to do with the fact that little in the way of actual food preparation training was given by Centerplate at the initial meeting, and when they did finally have a meeting to train everyone, no one attended because of the BS at the first meeting and because the second meeting was unexpected and short notice.

You should have seen how they handled the sign in process. Every single worker had to sign a sheet of paper. We used to simply take a list from the different groups and count the people as they walked in the gate, but it is no longer like that. It's okay to have the workers sign in, but they had only four people to take signatures. 2000 workers and 4 people taking signatures. It was absolute madness.

I ordered the foot long dog this time, had a choice of what toppings I wanted, and it came out on a fresh bun and was hot. I added the mustard and ketchup and it was great. My son had the Dreamland Nachos and they weren't worth the cost. Very little BBQ but he said they tasted good.
The footlongs are supposed to come with ketchup and mustard packets only. No kraut or sauce (or other toppings, unless you pay $1 for cheese) is supposed to be placed on those. If you lucked up and got someone who did not know, don't count on it for next time.

Less fixings? No...they still come with kraut and ketchup/mustard. The difference is that the weenies are steamed instead of fried on a griddle.

However, as one already mentioned, following the UGA game last year, the southwest corner of the Quad was totally trashed. The blame for this can be placed squarely on the Bruno Events Team. They had two men assigned to trash duty on the Quad. If they had a plan for getting the trash cans emptied in a timely manner, I don't think it would have looked as bad. Most of the negative Game Day experiences are a result of the Bruno Events Team. I still parked for free this time, and I will until I die or stop going to Bama games.

As far as the Five Guys...I was never aware that it was even an option. I know rumors floated, but I don't think it was seriously considered.

No, they were $8 for a Dreamland BBQ Sandwhich that came with a small bag of chips! I paid it and I sit in Section K and Crimsonbleeder sits in section H I think and their dreamland was the same as ours! $8!

I also griped about this when I heard about it before the season! $6 for a 32oz Coke is highway robery and stupid and there is NO excuse!

As for the BBQ, I'll say this...it was more expensive than I would have liked to pay, but the food was darn good and beat the old stadium dogs! I am bothered more by the Coke pricing than I am the Dreamland food! I realize that the concession guys are having to pay Dreamland royalities or whatever for the use of the name and such so it's not just them selling whatever they get from Sysco but rather Dreamland BBQ sause and so that will cost them. The same is true of Ezell's and whatever else their is. I get that stuff and was not happy to pay it, but not bothered as much. The $6 Coke is just STUPID and the smaller Coke was $4 and that was stupid too! Especially when we got 24 oz. Souvenier cups last year for $3.50! Now we're paying $4 for a 16 oz. paper Coke cup!

Eating at the game is never really an issue for me. I'm usually too wrapped up in the game to worry about it. Maybe Skittles or a Snickers bar at halftime.

Back when Pepsi had the deal, guys would come around in the stands selling drinks in those razor-thin paper cups with all the ice melted. Are they still selling drinks that way?

The Dreamland BBQ nachos, as referenced in the post, cost $7.

They asked if I wanted onions and kraut. And the other toppings were in the packets. With the old dogs it came with kraut whether you wanted it that way or not and it was not the same old dog that was a Bama tradition. It was much improved.

Did you say they are steamed? Because I thought I saw those hot dog rotissiere machines with all the weiners on it.

The food prices were high, but that is not what upset me. I bought a FM radio remote for my I Pod just for Saturday. I got to the stadium turned on 95.3 The Bear and there was about a 7-8 second delay that I have never noticed. You saw the play, the play ended, then Eli would inform me that JPW was ready for the snap. The delay was so bad it made me turn off the radio. Then I noticed if I went to the nearest souvenir stand I could purchase a nice Alabama radio to hang on my ear and guess what NO DELAY with this radio. After dropping $50 on the I Pod remote there was no way I was spending another $20 on that radio. I think it is bad you can't even bring your own radio now and enjoy the game you have to buy an official "New for the 2008 Season" radio.

BTW I did however spend $10 on a $6 drink and $4 bag of peanuts.

I too was disgusted with the prices, and what you got for the money.

I sent an e-mail to TIDE PRIDE and Mal Moore. I doubt it will do any good, but it made me feel better.

The only way for it to change is to stop buying concessions. I told them they priced me out of the market. I will take the $20-30 I usually spent, and make sure I fill up before the game. If everyone does it, prices will drop. If not, they will continue to go up.

I will still be there, but I will not be buying concessions anymore. I hope others do the same, but I can only control my spending. They have crossed the line with me.

Somebody remind me what UA's rationale was for not raising the funds and expanding the end zone was?
Oh yeah .... the economy.

Not blaming these ridiculous concession prices all on UA, but I'm sure Centerplate consulted with the school on pricing.

The foot longs are roller-grilled. The regular dogs are steamed. And in the past, the regular dogs were supposed to be offered without kraut and sauce if you wanted it that way.

I bought one of the Alabama radios via the internet - I forgot I had it in my bag and put on my earphones/regular radio and the delay (that had NOT been there in 9 years) appeared. I got out the little Alabama radio I had ordered and listened for a couple of minutes. I found I couldn't hear as well as with my old earphones/radio. My little Sony has a TV band and after fooling with it for a minute or so I picked up (apparently) the "no delay" broadcast.

It appears that the 95.3 station has had to turn on their delay - I wonder if it is to "make" people buy the Alabama radio.......if so, another example of greed by CTSM :)

I'm with the ones who are refusing to shell out more bucks for more things. No one could be more excited than I that coke has returned to BDS; however, I did not and do not plan to pay the asking price for a coke--unless they give me a couple of Makers Mark miniatures to go in each one! I've never had BBQ Nachos and from what I'm reading about pricing and confusion over how much/little BBQ actually goes on an order, I don't guess I'll be trying them anytime soon. Sounds like the Ezells stands may actually give you your money's worth; however, I'll not be hiking around to one of their stands. I've never been much of a stadium "eater." I never had a bad hot dog before--primarily because I never bought from the hawkers. If I were to buy a footlong and find that it only had mustard and ketchup--no kraut, no onions, and no relish, I'd be pretty upset. I've always liked the mustard, ketchup, kraut mixture--in fact, I prepare my dogs at home like that. Bottom line: our tailgates always have plenty of food from breakfast until post-game. I don't need sweetened, carbonated beverages, anyway and Diet Coke doesn't really do it for me. $4.00 a bottle for water! No thanks, I'll pass out from dehydration first! $10 to park a half mile from the Quad--fuhgetaboutit! If I've got to park that far away, anyway, I'll just park a bit farther away--either downtown or on the other side of McFarland, and walk! Regarding the "no-delay" radios, I've never been a listen on the radio when at the game kind of guy, anyway. Now, considering that you have to buy their own special little radio in order to listen, No Way! I'm not going to be spending anything at any UA outlet or vendor on game days--except for my weekly Venti Chai Latte at the Ferguson Center Starbucks! Any and everything else I may want will either be in my cooler or on the grill at my tailgate.
