Stiffarmtrophy.com projects Ingram to win in a close one (updated 12/12, 9am)

Re: Ingram, Suh, Gerhart and the Heisman (stiffarmtrophy.com at 6AM CDT has Ingram 1s

I was thinking the same thing and, after the career he has had, I don't have a problem with it.

Add the fact that Tebow was going to be there anyway (he is already a Heisman winner) and it makes perfect sense...

Re: Ingram, Suh, Gerhart and the Heisman (stiffarmtrophy.com, 1AM on 12/9, has Ingram

Not sure if it has been stated yet...

but Ingram faced 5 of the top 25 defenses this year. Against those 5 opponents, MI averaged 156 yards per game. Throw in LSU at #28 and he had 144 yards rushing against the Tigahs.

Gerhart only faced 2 of the top 25 defenses this year and averaged 124 yards against them.

Just stating the facts.

Re: Ingram, Suh, Gerhart and the Heisman (stiffarmtrophy.com, 1AM on 12/9, has Ingram

Fascinating. I believe it would be a credit to the Heisman to get Ingram over the two media darling QBs. I'm more surprised at the shutdown of McCoy rather than Tebow. I knew the NU game hurt him, but even I underestimated it.

Crazy. I'd be thrilled if Ingram wins though - a very deserving choice if it has to be a skill player.

Re: Ingram, Suh, Gerhart and the Heisman (stiffarmtrophy.com, 1AM on 12/9, has Ingram

Todd McShay or whatever his name is, just said on ESPN that Mark Ingram struggled down the stretch. What???

Besides Auburn, a game he was injured in, where did Ingram struggle?

Against LSU, he had 22 carries for 144 yards and 5 receptions for 30 yards.

Against Mississippi State, he had 19 carries for 149 yards and 2 TDs and 1 catch for 9 yards.

Against Chattanooga, he had 11 carries for 102 yards and 2 TDs and left the game in the middle of the second quarter!

Against Auburn, yes he struggled. He was hurt at some point, and he ended up with 16 carries for 30 yards and caught 3 passes for 21 yards.

And then, against Florida, the biggest stage of the season for ANY team, he had perhaps his best game of the year. 28 carries, 115 yards and 3 TDs, then 2 catches for 76 yards.

How is that struggling down the stretch? It's that kind of stupidity by these writers that will likely cost Ingram the award. FWIW, McShay voted Gerhart #1 on his ballot, Ingram #2 and Suh #3.

LOL - the female on stage with him corrected him by pointing out the SECCG performance. However, McShay had a great point in that McElroy was our MVP in the SECCG and against Auburn, not Ingram...

You are going to have to remember that the ESPN hate fest against Saban and Alabama is always there and is never going too be in Bama's favor. I have seen that for years. After the Saban leaving Miami thing, their hate was as bad as a liberal's hate of the US military. If MI does not win, it will be the anti-Saban, anti-Bama bias that does it. The eastern writers hate the SEC. The BIG 10 writers hate the SEC. The Big 12 will vote for a Big 12 guy and the PAC Nothing will vote for a PAC nothing player. MI's only real chance is getting first place votes out of the south and hope that the #2 and #3 votes carry him. I have read here and other places where some writers have actually left MI OFF their voting card. If that is NOT bias, what is? They will punish a very nice young man for their own hate of Saban and Bama.

To be fair, he was struggling before he was injured. But one bad game is hardly "the stretch".

Agreed.

And I'm still appalled by some of these southern writers leaving Ingram off the ballot entirely.

Oh well, use it as extra motivation to dominate in Pasadena.

Re: Ingram, Suh, Gerhart and the Heisman (stiffarmtrophy.com, 1AM on 12/9, has Ingram

As of 11:00PM on Tuesday the 8th, they had Mark Igram projected to get roughly 42.2% of the votes and be the winner. Of course they only have intelligence on approximately 40-45% of the actual ballots, so anything can happen. Frankly, I think it comes down to the two running backs MI and Toby Gerhart. It will depend (as always) on which one gets more of the third place votes to bolster their likely near equal first and second place votes.

Re: Ingram, Suh, Gerhart and the Heisman (stiffarmtrophy.com at 6AM CDT has Ingram 1s

team CAR / indv CAR / YDS / % of carries / YPC

#2 550 249 1542 45 6.2
I notice that you left off the TD stat. They're important in the game of football, you know. ;)

And to be fair, while Gerhart did indeed face PAC-10 defenses, he also had a PAC-10 O-line blocking for him while Ingram has a roster full of All-Americans supporting him. I understand that you guys won't give the man any credit since Ingram is in the race, but at least try to be somewhat evenhanded in your analysis.

If Alabama had wanted to, they could have padded Ingram's stats way beyond Gerhart's. How many 1-3 yard TD runs did our other RB's get this season? I know of at least a few times where Mark would waltz the team down the field and Trent or Roy (and even Terry Grant and Demetrius Goode) would come in and pick up the short yardage TD. If our coaches or Ingram were really concerned with stats, he'd have been in on all those short yardage plays, just like Gerhart was.

You're punishing Ingram because he shares the carries with other excellent backs (and still puts up exceptional numbers), while putting Gerhart on a pedestal because there's nobody worth a crap behind him. Come on, man...

I'm punishing no one--in fact I want Ingram to win. It just amazes me that people are trying so very hard to discredit Gerhart. The guy has earned his spot in the top 3 contenders.

Sportbook.com has Ingram winning -350 whatever that means.

Re: Ingram, Suh, Gerhart and the Heisman (stiffarmtrophy.com, 1AM on 12/9, has Ingram

Cardinal I watched Gerhart several times this year and agree that he is the second best Heisman candidate in the nation behind Ingram. ;) All kidding aside he is an excellent runner and I am sure also an excellent pass blocker. I was looking at his career stats some where and didn't realize that he had not caught one touchdown pass in college.

Yay! :)

We almost never drop the ball off to our RBs for some reason. But Luck is a big boy who can run it himself when necessary, I suppose.

Cardinal - I am with you 100%. We Bama fans want Ingram to win, but in the process, a lot of us are bringing Gerhart down.
I want Ingram to win, I think he should, and I think he will. But, all due respect to Gerhart. The dude is a beast, and deserves the credit he is getting. Now, if he wins, I might change my stance.

The reason - hands of stone. As an all around back, Ingram is far superior. It annoys me when people only want to compare their rushing yardage. Compare their total yardage. Ingram is right there, even against far superior defenses, and even with far fewer touches.

Hmmm, Ingram wins every way that you look at this.

Yards per carry - Ingram
Yards per catch - Ingram
Playing against superior defenses - Ingram

Wait - Gerhart has more TDs. Let's give him the Heisman for leading in one category... :conf3:

And his contribution led Stanford to an undefeated season?
If we are going to talk about the best college football player period, then Suh is the hands down, no arguments winner.
