Question: Summer muse: What are your expectations for Bama football in 2024?

Great question, but really QB dependent. I can see anything from 0 - 4 losses, depending on who it is.

15-0 - National pundits sleeping on Bama. They believe that Bama cannot absorb the D losses in experience, unaware that many of the 1st team guys got a lot of reps under Saban. I think the defensive line will harass the opposing QB's so much that the corners will not be burned near as much as they expect. How can anyone think that Keenan, and the big guy, Smith and Keely are not going to bring havoc on all teams, but they will. I expect this Bama D will be grade A. Bama wins title because they will score at an amazing clip and force any team to less than 35 and the offense will average 48 this year. Roll Tide!

The toughest games as I see them are Georgia, @Tennessee, @LSU and @ Oklahoma. We very well could lose 2 to 3 of those but the good news is that a 3 loss team will probably still be included in the 12 team playoff and if we were to have 3 losses and SOS comes into play then I think we'd be selected.
I think it would be a matter of extreme luck if we make the playoffs with 3 losses. 10-2 should get us in.

That might be a little Rosey an expectation, but it sure would be nice.

Hard to believe that the Saban era is completely in the past now. Deboer becomes the first coach since Ray Perkins to have to follow a legend. But, thankfully, Perkins he is not. It's a new era, not just for Bama, but for ALL of college football. It's going to be unchartered territory for everybody. 11-1 high end, 8-4 is the absolute low end. Contrary to the belief that seems to exist amongst other fan bases (not naming names but the barn, UcheaT, corndog U) the retirement of the GOAT didn't suddenly turn us into Vanderbilt and it sure didn't turn them into the Kansas City Chiefs. One of the funniest things I heard after Saban's retirement announcement was "congratulations Bama. You just became Vanderbilt". Now that we are Vandy, I suppose we will need to lower the bar just as bit so as to meet the new, lowered expectations

Watching Washington play Texas in the playoffs I have to say was impressed. With how the players carried themselves and a fair amount of toughness I have high hopes with the talent Bama has.
I hope Coach is sharing this with every player on the team.
If I was a coach and a player did this, I would probably have a coronary. Stupidest, most undisciplined, and unnecessary play in football.

10-2 and in the 12 team playoff. We will win first game in playoffs but lose 2nd
I actually like our chances in the playoffs. DeBoer will likely be the only coach who has experience with multiple-game playoffs like this from his 5 trips to the NAIA at Sioux Falls. BTW, he won 3 of those and finished 2nd another time.

Trying to remove my crimson glasses for a moment, but I honestly expect a 10-2 regular season and make the 12-team playoff. Anything better than that, and I think it would be a banner year for the first under Coach DeBoer. I think we have the potential to make another run if all the pieces fall in place, but I will be disappointed in anything less than above. RTR!

I know this isn't the subject of the thread, but I honestly see a strong likelihood of 6 of the 12 teams in the playoff will be SEC teams which will only infuriate the haters that much more...

Is Milroe capable of taking this team to a title? I am NOT saying that he isn't; I just really don't know. I do however have a very strong opinion wrt Milroe that he isn't close to being as good as our previous four starters. This would appear to be fairly evident. An improved Proctor would be a huge lift for Milroe, or so one would think.

The running game should be even better than last season (perhaps much better) and this will make life easier for Milroe, or at least it should. If Milroe gets injured (God forbid), I'm not sure what the dropoff would be with Simpson.

I'm not as worried about the defense as others appear to be. I expect Quandarius Robinson to really step up and develop into an early round draft pick and a clutch player. Losing Caleb Downs was huge. It will be virtually impossible to replace his talent but we do appear to be deep in the secondary. Hopefully the DL will improve and I think that it will.

In summary, the talent is there, and DeBoer is a proven coach. Will it take him some time to adjust to the SEC? Perhaps, but I'm not worried about it. If Milroe plays up to the standard that we Tide Fans are acustomed to, there is enough talent and coaching to win a title imo. Will he? Your guess is as good as mine.

As always, JMO.
