Tennessee is giving up about as many points per game as we are. Tennessee is scoring more points than we are. There are a few things that stick out though, Tennessee dismantled Cal. in the first game then came ever so close to losing to Air Force at home. They next faced Florida who they beat UT by 1 point and beat up a pretty bad Marshall team who's only win is against Hofstra. Tennessee went on the road to beat Memphis and a Georgia team that hung 33 on them but couldn't score more than 22 on Vandy.

Bama has struggled against Hawaii, Vandy, Duke and Old Miss but did manage to snatch a victory from the jaws of defeat. We coulda, woulda, shoulda beat Arkansas but lost by 1 to the team that beat Auburn yet was taken to the woodshed by USC. We hung with Florida till late in the 4th.

I guess my point is you can look at all of Tennessee's games and see they have had a couple of scares themselves.
Bama's rushing yardage is more than Tennessee's - (Bama 1041 to Tenn. 780).
Bama's passing yardage is less than Tennessee's - (Tennessee 1749 to Bama 1594)
Total offense is dang near a draw - (Bama 2635 to Tenn 2529)
Points scored goes to UT (Tenn 211 to Bama 171)

Bama leads the conference in trips to the red zone and time of possession. Bama keeps the ball 3 1/2 minutes per game more than UT. We also lead Tennessee in penalties which is not a good thing. 45/305 to 27/205.

Touchdowns scored goes to UT 27, Bama 19.
Field goals - Bama 13/20 Tennessee 7/8
Tennessee gets the nod on the kicking game by a long shot. Same for return yards.

For Bama to win this game we have to stop making stupid mistakes, step it up with special teams and get in Tennessee's face. I think we have seen over the weeks that any team is in jeopardy when they take the field. The Bama vs Tennessee is a rivalry game and stats can only show how close or far apart two teams are before they play. When the whistle blows, the stats be damned it's game on. I will probably take Bama and the points, straight up I don't know.

Some of you guys are making Tenn. out to be Ohio State. Tenn. is very beatable. Bama can't go out there and slop it around. We have to catch passes that hit us in the hands, step it up on D, and run the ball like we did against Ole Miss. I will be behind the Tide and cheering like hell when they whoop the Vols. Bama 27-Tenn 20!! Roll Tide:BigA:

It's not the Tennessee is that much better. It's that we lack the leadership and poise to win a "big game" right now. I think we are a year away from regaining the swagger of expecting to win instead of hoping to win.

I don't know...we're struggling to put up more than 20 points on the weak teams on our schedule, so I don't think we get more than 10-13 on UT unless we get some help. Can our defense step up and hold UT down is the question.

I'm leaning towards:

Bama: 10-13
UT: 28-35

I see a fairly close game for 3 quarters with UT pulling away at the end.

I don't see us getting blown away in this game. We played Uf late in the game and not for a few mistakes we take that game to the wire. We gave away the Ark. game. We struggled against Duke and Ole Miss, but I see our team up for the challange.

I think this game is close, but I think the key will getting pressure on Ainge.

Bayou,

correct me if i am wrong, but Florida beat UT by one point, not the other way around. Other than that, your stats look correct, but however you crunch the numbers the bottom line is UT has been able to capitalize on trips to the red zone, and we have not. That does not bode well for us in knoxville....

I'll say this...

If Alabama plays a complete game and capitalizes in the red zone, they wiill win this game. Period.
I would be inclined to agree with you, but that's a mighty Big "if", TiderinMiss...there's an old saying, the road to hell is paved with great intentions and efforts, but we need results. Hopefully, we will get positive results this coming saturday evening....:)

24-14 UT I'll say. I'll call for it to be 17-14 late in the game, when we turn it over in a comeback effort and UT puts it away.

I just can't see us holding off their passing attack, and I dread that their running game might start to find its mark with Foster healthier and Coker emerging. To win, we would need need to be the team that has everything go its way (a-la all our opponents this year).

Correct, I forgot to insert UT in who got beat.

I have noticed Alabama has run almost 100 more plays than UT. UT averages 6.1 yds per play while Bama averages 5.5. Has Darby truly regained his old form? If so, Bama could keep the UT defense on the field a long, long time.

I like a shot of sunshine with my doom and gloom so I will say UT is beatable. Let them think they can't be beat and let's see how it shakes out.

Both teams give it their all, of course, and it's closer than some here think.

If Bama plays up to the level of competition I think we have a chance. Tenn. has obviously shown they're a great team, at least on offense. 50+ points at GA? I mean, c'mon, they're not bad.

Though, if Tenn plays down at home, which they have recently, and the Tide get back to dominating TOP it could be interesting. Maybe we finally have that big play on Special Teams we've been lacking this season.

As always, I'm pulling for my team and not just calling it like I (think) I see it. It hasn't always been a pretty sight, what we're doing on the field. Hope springs eternal.

I do think Darby will have a big game...Our achilles heel on D has been stopping the Power running game...Had UGA stayed with the running game, they probably would have beaten us...
well, if that's the case, and using our last two games as a measure, the game should last about 1 hour and 10 minutes, as both teams run the ball 100 times and rack up 1000 yards total on the ground.

but seriously, as much as i hate having to be honest on this, i think the game will play out as a close one with UT wearing us down in the last 20 minutes. the score will not indicate the closeness of the game, with the vols putting up one or maybe two td's late after the tide d is worn out.
