The Good- Mac Jones, Jerry Jeudy, Najee Harris, The OL (minus penalties), and the DB's.

The Bad- First half defense (linebackers and Defensive line) didn't set edge or play gaps. LB's seemed lost.

The Ugly- I'll go with the exclamation TD by Harris w' 31 seconds left. We normally take a knee there, but I think Harbaugh has rubbed Saban the wrong way. Also, Auburn losing to Minnesota!
When we win and the burners loose that’s a good day! 😁

I thought we were going to kneel it out, but Najee was superman on that drive so how can you feel badly about it? Mac showed poise and made good decisions. I think had nine incompletions, and two of those should have been caught and he threw the ball away at least three times. Everyone on offense contributed in a big way.

The defensive adjustments made at the half were great. The coverages throughout the game were pretty good, and the interior defense certainly got better throughout the game. Bernier was a positive surprise, and Bulovas did his job.

I wonder if Saban took over the defense at the half. I bet he did because we looked much better overall .

I am fine hearing that, but the first half defense was horrid. I mean, horrid. If UM had not totally abandoned the play calls that worked in the first half, the noise would have continued.

Golding has to get better. That is a straight fact.
^^This^^ We all know about Freshmen and inexperience...but the man coaches at Bama which is a program competing for championships. I wish CPG all great things in life. Hope the issues are not of his creation.

For some reason it was the same old story in the 1st half...DE's getting pushed around and DL not dominating in any fashion. They dominated us on the edge... When we went to nickel our faster DB's started penetrating and then it all went downhill for UM's offense from there. The adjustment was good...but it should have happened sooner. Then, with all this we only gave up 1 TD in the entire game.

Gosh I loved this game more than I thought...going to be a long off season!
Know what you mean....hope I don't curl up and twitch. Season over???? NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

The Good: Mac Jones has another efficient day. Harris and Juedy get absolutely wonderful send-off games. 9th straight 11-win season. 🥳

The Bad: Tackling on defense. Lack of power run approach until the final drive (hard to criticize today’s play calling much but seeing our OL just bully guys at the end makes you wonder if we left some money on the field).

The Ugly: Surprisingly little in the way of improvement from the defense despite a month off and the ability to focus on things that would stop one team. We are blessed that Michigan was so cursed to have Shea Patterson at QB. This would’ve been a much tougher day than it ended up being if we were playing nearly any other team also playing today.

No one disagrees that he needs to improve. But we treat him on here like he’s trash. Not cool. Not how we built this site/family over the years.
I completely disagree with this. If this was actually the case the posts would be deleted and the posters would be suspended. Especially seeing that it is one of the board policies regarding players and coaches. Criticism isn't treating someone like trash.

It simply stating facts to say Golding’s position group has been the worst on the field the last two seasons and his first year as DC led to the worst defense since 2007.

I’m surprised we hadn’t already heard that Pete is taking a new opportunity elsewhere which means we need to be hoping for marked improvement this year in Tuscaloosa.

our true DC is saban,
We have been missing the player with the killer instinct on defense. Have to find that player to make the d click

There is a reason I try my best to stay out of the Game threads, and is a lot of fans just cant handle the situation or the liquor, maybe both in many cases, and tend to hit that over the line category. I remember in 2015, there was a certain poster (indefinitely suspended according to his profile) that absolutely hated Coker, and would constantly call him Cooker, and would always say stuff like "if we lose then its because of Cooker" in game threads even if Coker played a totally out of this world game.

I just think Gamethreads during tight games just bring out the worst of our fanbase at times, and Im impressed at the job our mods do in maintaining control during them.

As far as Golding... yeah he needs to improve, but if we are singling out Golding for this year's defense then people are missing what the problem(s) truly are. 1) we had serious injuries and 2) expecting a bunch of young players to quickly grasp Nick Saban's complicated defense enough to be a championship caliber defense is completely un realistic. Point is, we could've had Jeremy Pruitt this year at DC and had similar, if not the same, results with the injuries we had.

Show me any position group that had to play the 4th and 5th best player who had superb results?

How good would the RBs have been if we had to feature Ford and Townsend?

Or maybe a WR Corp of Shavers, Bolden, and Metchie?

That’s what the ILB position had this year.

It wasn’t just yesterday, it was all year long. I expected to see some improvement on defense at some point in the season and it just never came. The most improvement came when Michigan decided to stop running the ball and relied on their erratic QB.

I’m sure Saban knows whether or not Golding did a good job. On this forum we’re going to state our opinions of how he did. Personally, I hope to see someone else next year. If Golding keeps the job he’ll have my full support until we see poor defensive play from the new team.

The good: making half time adjustments to beat an opponent that was pesky in the first half. This is what winning programs do.
The bad: that first half defense was forgettable.
The ugly: I don't know. Auburn playing at the exact same time as us, and getting beat by Minnesota?

I think it takes an entire year for these younger players to properly develop. They hit a wall after a while and just can't get through it, over it, or whatever you want to call it. Most of them are just now a year removed from playing in the high school football playoffs.

saban made the point a few times this year that the new folks had no mentors to learn from on the field and that made learning and improving on the job much harder than usual. that weakness then filters through the entire defense.

i think overall the coaches did a pretty amazing job with the hand we were dealt.

What about 2018 when he inherited Mack Wilson and Dylan Moses? Each regressed compared to where they ended 2017. Moses less so but Wilson went pro and did fantastic after an awful year here.

Because he wasn't having to call the defense in Cleveland.....gee whiz.....you know that.....

Wilson didn't regress because the talent and coaching wasn't there. He regressed because he wasn't prepared or capable of calling the defense. He was "thinking" vs "reacting" -- last year. He took too much on his shoulders (Wilson) that he wasn't prepared to do....

I get you don't like Golding.....for whatever reason you have..... but your opinion is clear.... why do you continue to keep going there.

Moses regressed SO much that he was considered the leading candidate for the Butkus before the season started?

In Saban I trust.....and he sees something. So, I will follow his opinion. If he sees fit to replace him - I'm fine with it. Right now, we need continuity -- WAY more than we need to replace a DC again.....

Nobody wants Golding to succeed more than me. I can assure you that I do not hate him. The only person on Saban’s staff that I’ve had a strong negative opinion of was Kiffin but Kiff got results.
