Granted I'm just an armchair observer but it appeared the play calling last night did not make adjustments for LSU's defensive schemes. And there definitely didn't appear to be adjustments after halftime. Those three and outs kill your defense. What happened to passes over the middle or rolling out the QB away from the pressure? And Harris was essentially invisible last night. I liked taking shots downfield, and granted there were some drops and hand holding and shirt pulling the officials couldn't see - we saw on TV because the announcer said the CBS slow mo is the best in television! - but the play calling overall seemed off.

Roll Tide!

The one key adjustment that should have been made - rolling Jalen out on called pass plays. When he rolls to his right he is a better passer than when he stands in the pocket, and the pocket was collapsing around him all night. It boggles the mind that Daboll did not make this adjustment.

The play calling is fine if we block better and don't drop passes. In this game, it was the execution IMO.

Nope - your ability to "block better" is often dictated by the other team. You didn't block poorly because your o-line had a bad day. You blocked poorly because LSU's defensive line had a dominant performance. When Alabama's defensive linemen are in the other team's backfield, is that because they needed to block better? Nope. It is because of the excellent play of Alabama's defensive line.

When this happens, and it is going to happen, you have to adjust. That didn't happen. You still won because you are Alabama, but why help the other team by continuing the same thing time and again when it clearly is not working?

In my memory, we've always seemed to play tight against LSU. Is my memory failing me? That doesn't excuse the lack of adjustments from last night, but it just always seem that under CNS, we play tight more often than not against LSU.

I give a huge amount of credit to the L7U D-line, but our offensive line did not have a particularly great game and Smith & Jeudy dropped a few passes, one of which by Smith would've been a TD. I am not disagreeing with you, but we did NOT execute well on offense and a lot of that is on us.

No flames, and I’m not disagreeing so much as seeing it differently. Most teams that don’t win the LOS don’t win the game.

For whatever reasons we didn’t win the LOS consistently on either side of the ball last night (IMO). But we did at key moments in the game, and thankfully it was enough.

Edit- I mean, LSux is wildly talented, but last time I checked we are too?? Right??? :-)

Fair to say the OL was having a particularly rough night, but also fair to say that our offensive staff just doesn't appear to know how to deal with pressure - shows up game after game. Their deficiencies run a lot deeper than that, of course...

The offense looked really flat at time, and I hate these designed QB runs. We have 5 beasts in the back field that should be getting the ball. I also was really hoping we would get to see Tua last night. He is developing into a really good quarterback and his passing skills are probably better than Jalen. Tua just needs to get some more game experience, and we are going to have an interesting spring.

We always seem to play tight and conservative against LSU because they have turned the game into an annual war. Once they lose it, they often lose another game or two because they are so deflated. We always come out of the game battered and bruised and get another physical game with MSU. Our defense continues to get weaker due to injuries, so our offense is probably going to have to find a way to either control more clock or score more or both. The easy games on our schedule are over, with the obvious exception of Mercer. We have to hope that a few of the younger, unproven guys can step in at linebacker and get the job done. We will also need better execution offensively for this season to end like we want- SEC and national champs.

Dead on with that on Tom. I think we needed this game to bring us all down to earth a bit. The guys in the trenches need to make some intensity adjustments because we have a lot of very tough games ahead of us starting next week in Starkville.

Well said.

I love this that we have scored each quarter this year. I am still baffled as to why Daboll does not make adjustments though. He should know, especially after halftime or looking at film later.

I know i may get flamed, but i'm over it. The reason that it appears that Daboll doesn't make adjustments is that there is only so much that our starter has proven to be able to do. He's a one-read then tuck it and run guy. I wish he would prove me otherwise. Love him, great kid and talented, but just wish he could show us more. I'm concerned against MSU, Auburn, and then possibly UGA that at least 2 of those 3 have defenses that will force the throw, and that may not end well. I wish that whoever taught the Tagovailoa boys to read the defense and see the field during the play could be on our staff.

Not when her scrambles to his right. When he rolls right, he keeps his eyes down field and reads everything on that side of the field very well. He also throws better when moving to his right. It's like he is more comfortable because he isn't boxed in, so he takes more time to read the field and he makes better throws.

When he rolls left, he is a disaster as a passer. Granted, most right handed QBs struggle when rolling left, but Jalen is really bad.

Exactly right. I think the OC gets blamed more than he should. Daboll can look like a genius or an idiot depending on how the OL is blocking. If they are blocking well then almost any play works but if they're not then almost nothing works. The same complaints were made about Kiffin when the OL wasn't blocking. I trust Coach Saban's judgement whenever he hires a new OC. I assume Coach Saban and the OC are on the same page most of the time or he never would hire or keep the OC very long.

So they only scored 10 points because they didn't execute, right? Had nothing to do with Alabama kicking their behinds?
