Mark Esper, US Defence Secretary, cast the decision as a way to “enhance deterrence against Russia” and strengthen Nato.

What are the repercussions of this move?

Members of the Republican Party have criticised the move as a gift to Russia and a threat to US national security.

How so?

Probably the biggest issue is that it implies the US may not be willing to support NATO, and thus allow the Russians greater ability to play heavy handed games in Europe. But I think what drove this decision is that Merkel wasn't going to play along with trump's G7 meeting.

All Merkel has to do is wait him out.
All we had to do is throw him out.

"It's not a lie if you believe it."

I'm convinced that Trump WAS Costanza. Think about it.

1) He was from Queens.
2) He lied about his test scores.
3) He has a temperamental father.
4) He's a poor business negotiator (like when George wanted more money for the sitcom and wound up taking half)
5) he denies being a white supremacist (like when George was O'Brien in the limo)
6) he pretends to be devout when it suits his purposes (though not Latvian Orthodox)
7) he's scared of women
8) he wasn't very good in his real estate job
9) lacks empathy - including when people near him die
10) is the kind of guy who would buy a cashmere sweater with a red dot on it at a discount
11) when he has hair, it's fake
12) pretends to be a great builder (or an architect)
13) creates fictional people to try to advance (John Barron meet Art Vandelay)
14) would succeed better if doing the precise opposite of his instinct
15) has a fantasy of dating a woman who doesn't speak any English

There's probably more, but I'd have to rewatch a few of the old ones.
Isnt Queens where the Mets are? I always thought in baseball NYC is truly divided, but in football its more or less 90% Giants and 10% NYJ wishers since the stadium is in New Jersey.

I wouldve thought Trump was a Mets fan.

It strengthens the Russians and moves Germany into expanding their military. It could also potentially give the EU a reason to become more than an economic system and more of a replacement for NATO since Trump does not seem to see the need for the US to be a part of it.

If you start adding up the armed forces of the EU countries, you end up with a good sized army. Unfortunately, you probably couldn't get them to agree on what time to meet for lunch.

And now the Furher proposes delaying the election (but, of course, he never said those words so he can deny it)

With Universal Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good), 2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history. It will be a great embarrassment to the USA. Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote???

I don't mean to rile our good friend AUDub, but......Trump is basically playing defense like the Auburn secondary. Commit pass interference on every single play in the hopes the refs will get tired of throwing flags and let you get away with it barring something which they might lose their own jobs permitting. While I don't bash Auburn nearly as hard as most folks here - they've been doing that very tactic for years. The only way to stop it is have a fleet receiving corps.

1) Lord Ismay, NATO’s first secretary-general: “The purpose of NATO is to keep the Americans in, the Russians out, and the Germans down.”

Basically, we don't want Germany to HAVE to get (or to feel they must get) a massive military. They pretty much began two World Wars that very way.

2) It's a gift to Putin if he decides to channel his inner Stalin and expand his "empire"

That's the simple stuff. There's more complexity to some of it but those are the basics.

Honestly, if we're going to move the election, how about next Tuesday? Let's just get this over with.
You've got a point.

And it would drive home what I've been saying for years: the Convention and debates are useless exercises in crapola. Conventions are a relic of a bygone era. Debates, well - they're nothing but already focus group tested zingers designed to provide a memorable "knockdown" moment. Every partisan wants the one-liner to "he showed him (or her) who was boss," but it literally means nothing.

If you don't believe me, just go ask Vice-President Bentsen how it worked out for him.

I may be late to see them, but if you haven't seen the photoshopped clips where Trump is talking and they stuck an accordion in his hands, complete with the soundtrack...

Trust me on this, it's comedy gold. There are several clips out there...google "Trump accordion hands" and give yourself a treat. You will never see him talking again without wondering "where is his accordion?"

So Ari Fleischer at least has spoken up.

"Our democracy is based on elections in which everyone knows the rules and they apply to all. Election Day is and will be Nov 3, 2020, Mr President - please don't even pretend to mess with this. It's a harmful idea.

But remember when FDR delayed elections during WW2?
