If you go to the site that links the one you supplied you'll see that Lemming is saying that last year the state was stocked with recruits and that this year is a down year. That's not saying he doesn't like Alabama, just that our state isn't as deeply talented as it was last year. No slight there.

Last year, Alabama was a Sweet Home for recruiters. Future all-americans were as plentiful as great BBQ. But no longer. While coaches still get their BBQ fix at Dreamland, the talent crop is a borderline nightmare. Writes Tom Lemming.

No matter how you look at it the ESPN Headline is Low Tide. That can't be very good news for Tide Fans.

And you are surprised? BAMA is at the lowest tide, and the Tide is not coming in for a few years.

What do we do? Oh my!! We support our teams that take the field. We remember the glory days and prepare for our return to even greater glory.

So is there any truth to Lemming's story? Is the available talent pool in Alabama that bad this year? That's sad considering how CMS locked down most of the state this past year for recruiting. I was looking forward to more of the same this year.

If the in-state pool is truly that shallow this year, what's everyone's take on Coach Shula and staff's abilities to recruit the hot talent from out of state?

Guys its not all that bad. I can assure you in the past a lot of guys from our state were not blue chippers. But coached right and players that play like a team and are molded, tend to have more heart and will to win that show boats. Ala the Dubose years. I want the blue chippers also but heart and determination cannt be measured. Could the hoops team have gotten much of anywhere without our "walk on point guard" Antoine Pettway? He was the spark pluge that made the engine run. I assure you that there are 25 real football players in the state. If we get 12-15 and mix in some outa state talent and jc's we will be fine. We only have 21 for next year anyway.

The tone of this article makes sense, considering that a lot of what I've been reading has our staff looking at quite a few blue-chippers across state lines.

Will CMS and Co. have success convincing top schoolboy talent from other states to make Tuscaloosa home? Only time will tell, but based on last year, I wouldn't bet against him. Going out-of-state is always a bit risky, but if the talent level in your own back yard is less than it normally is, than I suppose your strategy must reflect this.

I still believe it is Mike's priority to get the best in-state talent. But it would be incredibly stubborn and foolish to ignore the fact that our in-state numbers are down and ignore any kids outside our state lines.

IMO, his early focus on key out-of-state targets tell me two things: One, that he believes the state's talent level is lower than 2004's class, and; two, he has decided that he and his staff are going to proactively pursue top talent, wherever it may be. This shows confidence in their ability to recruit anywhere, and to re-build Alabama's legacy on a national level.

I guess we can take some satisfaction in the fact that he is talking about the states top talent and refering all of them to the Tide. Not realy any mention of Agbarn. The title of the story is really the thing that ticked me off!

Florida is close and they have loads of talent every year. It is not much of a stretch to convince a Florida player to come to Bama. CMS has ties in Florida that should help recruit there. He got some good uns from there for this last class.

GO BAMA,ROLL TIDE!!!

Personally, I don't put a lot o faith in what Lemming has to say since you won't find him roaming the sidelines of high school football games in the fall.

The problem with the recruiting guru's and their rankings actually fall at the feet of the high school coaches in the state. Many don't care how their players are ranked and the ones that do spend very little time getting their players profiles out to those *guru's.*

If I were to count I'm sure I could come up with 30+ players coming out next year with Div. 1 talent.

Add to that, the names on our list (recruiting) include as many players in state as those out of state. Shula successfully closed the state borders in little to no time last year. This upcoming class will have some of the top names from the SE...bet on it.

IF the talent sucked, how come we had to fight off Tennessee, LSU, Florida and avery other national power for the players we got.

I believe in general good recruiting classes equal good years down the road, if not exactly at least the tendancy leans that way, but I don't swollow this good year bad year stuff, Some years seem better because you have a hand full of skill position players that capture alot of attention, you add that to the normal crop and you got a great year,

but a "bad" class could have a bunch of lineman and linebackers that will help somebody win a national title down the road, but because they didn't have a "Jemarcus Russell" they are a bad class.

Recruiting like the NFL draft is an Art, People can't be quantified as a whole,
